Sweep, Induction and Lady bits?!

Hey girls,
1. So im booked in for sweep tomorrow and im terrified. Ok I know labour gona be million times worse, but i just seem to have accepted anything goes in labour. Just wondered if these sweeps are painful? (I find smears painful). I have heard though, if your cervix isnt soft enough they wont do one, is this true?
2. If I have to be induced, what will they do to me? Sorry I just dont have a clue what to expect!
3. Lady bits, bit late to be worried about this now, but just wondered what you were all doing about down there? I keep thinking I should have booked for a wax. But ive just managed to shave.

Hiya,can't help on 1&2 but I wouldn't worry too much about 3,the mw's really don't care and have seen it all. Infact I dint think my mw actually looked down there much wen I had my 2 natural births,was more feelin than lookin lol x

Hi hun,

1. I had a sweep today so its fresh in my mind! it wasnt painful, just uncomfortable but to be honest my mind was more on the fact that there was a student midwife watching my MWs every move! haha. It didnt hurt a bit, in fact I told her to be as vigorous as possible to move the babe!!!! They will try their best to do one. My cervix was soft, but is still posterior she could just get a finger in it but booked in for another on Tuesday
2. Midwife talked me through induction today. At my hospital they start with prostiglandin gel and put it behind your cervix. Hopefully should get things started.
3. I was worried about this today!!! haha. I got up early to shave and bought some feminine wipes so I could make sure I was nice and fresh when I got there. In fact its not worth the effort because they honestly dont really look! I was covered over with a blanket!

Did you have it ALL taken off hun? This is what I normally have and I love it BUT I was worried it would be weird for the MWs with it all off. I am dying to shave off my newly grown garden. Ive only let it grow as I thought it would be more 'accepted' haha. x

Rayoflight - Thanks for the advice and I bet that feels nice, should have had a wax but have to settle with shave which actually makes me quite sore. x

Okay that makes me feel brave!!! I might go back to my norm. Feels weird as hell having fuzz down there. Suppose it wont be he first time they've seen that! xxx

Hey I got induced so I can help there! You go to hosp and they put gel on the cervix. U have to lie down for an hour and then you can walk around and the gel should start to make your cervix soften and shorten. At 4cms they take you to labour ward and hook you up to a drip with a substance in that mimics the natural hormone produced in labour to increase the amount of contractions. Unfortunately you have to remain in bed as A) your permanently hooked up andB) they have to monitor the strength of contractions and babyc heartbeat. Apparently they aim to start you on 3 contractions in 10 minutes! That's about it really...

Thanks Sqeakz, found out more about induction today too. Shame about being hooked up to a drip though, but needs must. x
