Hiya

I have searched and searched and I cannot find the answer to my question.

My friend is pregnant and knew nothing of the grant, I told her about it and she gets £15 a week child tax credit.

Is she entitled to the grant? I know the website says "child tax credit that's greater than the family elelent" or something, but I rememeber someone here had the exact figure for it, ie it was 376 quid for the year or something.

Anyone.....?

The sure start maternity grant is a one of payment of £500 to buy things for the baby. You can apply from 11 weeks before the baby is due until the baby is 3 months old.

To qualify you need to be on one of the following:-

Income support
Jobseekers Allowance
Working tax credit including the disability element
Child tax credit at a rate higher than family element (£548 a year or more)(or £1096 a year or more if her child is under 1) xx

That's exactly what I was after cheers.

ive got to put in for my grant soon. how long does it take to come through?

Mine came through quickly, but I was only entitled to it after Damien was born which was pretty pointless as we had a rush job of buying everything before, but oh well, he got kitted out in a fair few clothes!

I am sure someone said on here before that it only took about a week to process,if we fill in the form right  :D xx

I had the money in the bank one week after sending the form off.

I know we can't make a claim until 29 weeks, but does it matter if the midwife fills in her bit when i am 28 weeks as that's when i will be seeing her? xx

Does anybody know why some are entitled to the grant before birth and others after? Seems daft to me! :?
