Stretch and Sweep

Just forum jumpin a bit here ladies cause was told I might reach a better audience in this section where the ones who have had the successful sweeps have now moved to . Basically, I am booked in for one on Thursday (the 26th - day before my due date) and the midwife has told me my cervix is "very ripe and favourable" < pfft, silly midwife terms :L make you sound like a piece of fruit!! Lol. I was 2-3cm and stretchy at my last appointment last week but baby is only half engaged so got a bit of work to do in that department, but she says she thinks its likely to work because of the compatibility of my cervix. Fingers crossed!!

Basically who has had one done, and is it sore ? Im a bit nervous!! Did you bleed alot, or any? And did it work for you?, if it did, how long did it take to start working?

It worked for me the second time round. There is no point in having one if they arent a bit brutal. In fact I asked my midwife (on recommendation from a friend) to be as vigorous as possible. It is uncomfortable of course, and may hurt a bit, but if you want to have a sweep that must be expected. Plus its nothing compared to labour! xx

Oh and I had my second one on a Friday, and waters went Sat afternoon. Although my contractions didnt start naturally and had to have drip. x

worked 2nd time for me..i was also told "very ripe and favourable" and 2cm,walked and bounced like crazy after the 2nd and it worked not sore,just uncomfortable...good luck...

I had one and I was 3cm went in next day for induction as sweep hadn't done anything.

I too asked the midwife to be brutal on the first sweep cos I was 41 weeks and reeeally wanted it to work! But 4 days later the second sweep did the trick, my waters went the next morning xxx

I had a load 2 before being admitted for induction then they did them everytime they examined me during my induction. None worked but I never got very far, baby just wasn't coming!

Don't be surprised by pain and bleeding. Im sure yours will go well!

Same for me as regard sweeps, although I progressed really quickly after 2nd pessary so maybe the sweeps helped.

I had one at 7 days over and it didn't work was induced 5 days later and I was favourable it didn't hurt just uncomfortable and expect a bit of a bleed after as well xx

I had one attempted 3 days before due date cos mw was going on holiday! She couldn't do it cos i wasn't ripe or favourable! Must have done something cos the next day what i thought was aches from mw fiddling around was actually labour! Good luck

i had one at 3 days over and went into labour about 10 hrs later

I had one at 38+4 which she couldn't do as my cervix was tilted and postior, I started with contractions at 39+6 went to hospital and I was 2-3cm so she gave me a s+s which by the Way in labour is very painfull, as soon as I stood up the contractions came so fast and my baby was born an hour n half later xxx

I had 2 and they did nothing. Ended up 13 days overdue and was induced! In saying that my cervix was never favourable so I'd say you are in a much better position for it to work - good luck xx

I had one the day after my due date, had it about 4pm and had baby at 11.15pm THAT night, we're all different though x

It didn't bring on labour for me, but I did find out I was 3cm dilated when I went to have one, she did the sweep anyway & yeah it was pretty sore tbh. not alot of blood after, just a bit of spotting.
