Hi Ladies,
I had my 2nd MC in a row, yesterday. Had my last one in July. Completely gutted. We have a 9month old son and we desperately want a big family. I found out y'day,as Doc took a swab on Sunday,I have Strep B.Nurse stressed it didnt cause MC but she also said she they didnt knw what casued this or other MC. She recommended we wait til we try again but I'm unsure why she would say this. I had my placenta manually removed after my son's birth in Dec 2012-could it be they 'annoyed' someting in/down there then? Also,NHS dont do anything til a woman has 3 in a row-awful!! Would anyone recommend going private for investigation first before we try again? We thinking we will try once this bleeding stops and I have AF then go again. So tough xxx

I had strep b when I had my daughter. I've also had recurrent losses. Strep B was never mentioned as a potential factor in the losses, and when I had my recurrent miscarriage tests, they never tested for it.

I would say there is no harm in going private for investigations if you feel the need, although 70% of women with recurrent miscarriages (3+) there is no found reason. The tests you would be asking for would be: chromosome karyotyping, day 21 and day 3 bloods, thyroid function, blood clotting disorders, rubella immunity, a scan on womb and ovaries, sperm test for husband... I think that's everything hun xxx

After having had 4 mc, I really understand the need to find a reason, but after all the research and testing I had, it came down to my consultant following a hunch rather than the tests finding something obvious. Group b strep is not a known cause of mc, and you can end up having multiple courses of strong antibiotics which don't "clear" it.
As for the procedure you had, I understamd from some ladies having ivf some clinics actually do a pre cycle treatment to the uterus to make implantation more succesful, so unless something terrible happened in the procedure I would put it to the back of your mind.

The hardest thing about mc is accepting the advice that it is "one of those things", used to make me want to scream sometimes, but ultimately I think this is still an area of medicine that is poorly understood (it seems all the top specialists disagree on many areas). You could get into a very costly trap going privately, and I think the opinion you get would vary from consultant to consultant.

Thank you so much girls. It's good to know what kind of tests I could ask for Diane and reassuring re:Strep B from you both. x Flisstebbs,I know rghtly re:£ an I think I will just keep trying anyway-miracles do happen an I have a wee boy to prove it.xxx I will go to see my GP next week and ask for a referral to Gynae,NHS,and if not then I will drop some of those test names and let on I know more than I do to hopefully get somthing done.x We will try again in 2months and just fx we get a sticky one. Hope you both well xxxxxxxxx

Hi,
My mc was down to a group b strep infection but i was 23+6 and it is very rare. In most women it just hangs around and causes no problem at all but in a small few it can infect the membranes causing them to rupture and infect the placenta and in my case jakes heart just stopped. Most of the women this happens to also have underlying problems (i had a stitch in). It has never been associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester but you can always be safe than sorry and make sure you get rid of it before trying again. (it will never fully go away, once you have had it once the likelihood of it reappearing at some point is quite high.) Just ask for monthly swabs to be sent off. Its hardly very much for them to give you a swab and you can go to the toilet and do it yourself (i do) and then they pop it in a baggy and send it off. 5 mins tops for your peace of mind!!:)

So sorry for your loss and i hope you get your miracle soon xxx
