Ive decided I want to stop bfing after a week, what do I need to do? sorry if this has been asked before?! I know I can ring hv , but thought id seek out some first hand experiences! boobs are currently v sore as I haven't fed for a day now! please help! x

Ride it out! Express a tiny amount to relieve the pressure if need be!

I've just stopped after 8 weeks and my god the pain! Worse than labour

I exclusively bf for 3 weeks, then decided to combi feed - as I wean him onto 100% formula (as I thought this might be the best way to stop bf-ing gradually - to avoid engorged boobs and blocked ducts)... so I decided to introduce 2 formula feeds per day and drop 2x breastfeeds, then after a 4-7 days I dropped a couple more breastfeeds and increased the formula feeds.

Now after 1 1/2 weeks the milk is drying up quicker than I thought it would (which is fine to be honest) - I can now go longer between expressing - to merely relieve the pressure/discomfort. I express first thing and last thing, just the minimum - and I get a 5oz feed from these 2 expressions each day. The rest is formula now. It's going really well - so I'm extending time between expressing again.... I didn't express this AM and so far I've been OK - boobs are a bit tender but not painful.. so it's definitely working.

Good luck... it's taken me 1 1/2 weeks only - I thought it would take a number of weeks but it hasn't - no pain either... xx

Thanks for your replies, the pressure was so bad I gave him a feed and immediately felt better, ive been combi feeding bcos he lost too much weight and I was a bit frantic at the beginning, so I guess i'll just see it through and gradually stop...I did hear that you can get tablets to dry your supply up, but the idea of that made me feel sad ! Never expected to feel so emotional about the subject! x
