Hi guys, please don't judge me but many years ago when i was very young and extremely stupid i contracted an STI.

It was detected almost stright away and treated. It was genital herpes which i understand can flare up again. Luckily enough i haven't had a flare up again since the first time.

As it is taking me 3 months plus to conceive i'm now wondering if my stupid past is affecting my future.

Does anyone know if this particular infection can affect fertility?

(i'm on a works computer and daren't research it on here).

Hi Becks, Ill share you embarassment hun, I have this too

I have researched this and as far as I know it has absolutely no effect on fertility, but it can cause complications for your baby if you fall pregant - the risks are slight but it is worth talking to your doctor. If you already have it when you fall pregnant then your baby will have a high chance of being completely fine - problems only really occur if you contract it during pregnancy and only then the chances of the baby contracting neo-natal herpes (which can be fatal) is very slim, and babies of mothers with a longstanding infection will have natural immunity. (Providing they are full-term as this only kicks in at around 28 weeks)

I hope I havnt worried you, but this is vital information in my eyes, and as I said the chances of any problems are very very small, but a doctor or nurse can tell you more.

Hiya as far as I am aware no it doesnt, some people just take longer than others to conceive. Everyone has done things they're not too proud of, don't beat yourself up

Ive already posted in off topic about being embarrassed today so might as well carry on. I had contracted a sti last october of my ex cheating **** and luckily enough got it treated in october i think i had it for a couple of months because me periods went of track but after i had been treated they went back into a cycle, i fell pregnant (not planned) at the end of december beginning of January with my new partner and had my little boy 8 weeks ago, I think if you are swabbed they have a good idea of how long you have had it and how badly it is! My nurse who treated me was lovely and explained it all!
I hope you get your bfp soon

Hi, thanks for the replies everyone and sharing your own experiences too - has made me feel a lot better  .

Glizyglamgirl - thanks for the info, and no you haven't worried me! xx
