I remember a post on this ages ago but cant seam to find it?

I was just wondering how much you sterilise things and when? careys started using a dummy and he cant keep it in his mouth for the life of him!! so it always drops on the floor so i pick it up and put it my mouth to clean it then give it him back (only my house floor not shops or anything) my aunt saw me do this and nearly had a heart attack!!

am i being trampy and should i sterilise it properly? my house floors not dirty it gets hoovered everyday lol and nobody wears shows around the house so i dont see the problem myself!.. my aunt just made me feel like im doing sonething well out of order!

and, how often do you sterilise your bottle teets?

Amy

to be honest with matthews dummys i do the same, he drops it i suck it and give it back to him i wouldnt do it if i was ill or sometimes i would run it under hot water and then sterilise about once a week. Bottles and teats are done everyday once hes had a bottle it gets rinsed, then i wash a load in hot soapy water then sterlise and make up the next batch. The thing is when you start weaning my HV advised you dont have to sterlise spoons and bowls only things like bottles etc as the reality is you dont sterlise saucepans etc before cooking and they also start picking things up off the floor and crawling and then hands go in mouths you cant protect them from every little thing !

I sterilise bottles and teats etc but not much else.

Spoons and bowls I chuck boiling water over. If you think about the little teddies and teething toys etc there's no way you could make sure it's all sterile. What about the playmat if you put them on their tummy and they end up sucking it? Brody does this all the time, I'm not worried, sooner or later you have to start cutting down on sterilising stuff anyway.

I agree urchin i'm pretty sure our parents and grandparents didnt bother with all that and besides if you wrap them up in cotton wool now trying to protect them from germs they will only suffer later as their immune system wont know whats going on! god i sound old!

Same here, I would sterilise my breast pump and bottles but thats it. Only because of the bacteria in the milk, everyuhting else I just wash in boiling water as she puts everyhting in her mouth anyway. However we were told not to put dummies in our mouths as we can pass things on to babies such as oral thrush, we might not have it but babies mouths are less tolerant than ours and they could develop it.

I sterilise bottle, teats & dummies. However I dont think you need to be as careful when the are a few months + old.
I sterilise the dummy still but will use it for a good few hours.

I sterilize teats and bottles and every couple of days I will go on a dummy hunt (they end up in some weird places) and sterilize them all at once. I don't bother with her bowls or spoon cos shes always grabbing stuff and licking it or putting it in her mouth so whats the point.

I do teats and bottles and a dummy now and then as Jayden doesn't have one but i try her sometimes if she won't settle, but spits them out. There is one in the car which i just stick in my mouth before I try her as well. I sterilise her medicine syringe. Bowls and spoons I just wash normally and she's been fine. xxxxxxxx

I have a cold water sterilizer and all her dummies are kept in there until she needs them. I also sterilize bottles and her medicine syringe.

i just sterilise the bottle teats and bottles and i sterilise his dummies every so often but i wudnt worry amy i always clean his dummy in my mouth lol

luv braiana x
