Spots when you're due on

When you get spots when you're due on, is it due to the progesterone levels rising? ie would you get them whether or not you are pregnant? Cos I always think when I start breaking out more after ovulation that I'm gonna get my period and that I can't be pregnant.
 
okedoke, I did some research for ya, and found out that progesterone acts as an androgen, and androgens stimulate the oil glands in the skin and so creates that problem especially in women in the luteal phase, when progesterone levels are at their highest. Here's the link to the article I found:

Thanks melissa, you're a star! So just cos I'm breaking out after ov, it doesn't mean I'm definitely not pregnant?
 
Nope - on the contrary; spots can be a sign of pregnancy since the progesterone levels are increased during the first tri. :)
