Can anyone that has or has had SPD tell me what it feels like? Is the pain ever in your groin where your leg basically connects to your body? I have been having pain on one side there for the past couple of days and at some points I'm in absolute agony. I don't know if I should go to aquanatal tonight or not!

I went to the GP last night and he thinks it is SPD and then some! I have quite a long back, which has given me problems in the past and he thinks there is a good chance that I have suffered from this even before I was pregnant. His guess is that something in my sacrum kind of slipped out of place because of the ligament softening and the fact that I am hypermobile, and it's now affecting my entire pelvis. It would explain why my sacrum is ridiculously swollen (the thing that caused my husband to panic over tumours recently).

I am seeing the physiotherapist in a week and I am scared of what they are going to say! I HAVE to work until 30 July but my desk chair hurts me so much. I have started doing what I know are safe exercises and I'm really taking it easy, but I wish I didn't have to wait a week to find out what I should and should not do!

Snap, tht is exactly what i have and where i have it. For me it is on my right hand side cos my pelvis is rolled out further on that side. When i first got it i thought it was cos my underwear was too tight! i wish.

GP should be able to diagnose if they have some anti natal experience (warning, empty bladder first cos its about there they will push).

i have it on my right side, some days its ok and some days its awful, midwife just said its baby on a nerve

I had some bad pains in my pubic area around 28 weeks and my baby book said to expect this as its just your pelvis preparing and getting ready for birth. I looked up SPD on the internet and looked at the symptoms and what I was experiencing was the same as SPD, thankfully though it went within a week or so.

There is every possibility yours could be SPD but hopefully it will disappear and just be your body getting ready.

I have pain in both sides ( more to the left) and the pubic/pelvis area is absolute agony at night, walking stairs, standing on one leg and walkign for more than 10minutes.
I'm hoping that you don't have spd hun xxx

Did any of you get the belt that the GP said I might get? Is it uncomfortable? I'm hot as it is! :(

Sweetie sorry i can give advice on the belt but
from me so sorry your in pain and i hope if you get the belt it relives the pain and that the docs can do more to help you

I didn't get a belt, instead a got a support stocking whihc is quite warm but keeps me looking trim around the tummy (Some days i need the thought of that to keep me going).

i think mothercare do some underwear with support my physio said if i felt the stocking wasn't working i could wear them while i waited to go back to her (only a temporary measure).

So i guess it has been diagnosed as SPD? I am pretty sure Mildly has a support belt if you want to ask her.

Well my GP said it sounds like that. I guess that is as close as I am going to get to a diagnosis for now. He said it wasn't just my symphysis pubis but also my sacral iliac joint.... so basically my entire lower back is messed up! I skipped aquanatal last night because I couldn't bare the thought of walking there even though it is just a few minutes away and I regret it now because the relief would have been better than what I got from my bathtub!

get your GP to refer you as an urgent otherwise with normal time lines you will have popped before they see you.

I was asked by my GP for two weeks from diagnosis to see if it would go away on its own, it didn't. So she referred me as an urgent on the tuesday, on the thursday they rang and said they had a cancellation for the following day and did i want it. You betcha i did!

I found making sure i had a cushion or pillow between my legs when on my side in bed helped. Also don't stand on one leg, i think i said above amke sure you sit down to put your underwear on and off (trust me) and push up with your hands when getting out of a chair might help until you can get further a referral.

I have the belt and so far it makes walking so much less painful BUT it also has to be on real tight to do this and i find myself going dizzy and nearly fainting so i have to take it off quite alot aswell.

Thanks for the tips. I'm seeing the physio in a week and I work in the hospital, which they know, so I think if they get any cancellations they will think of me. I'm hoping that the fact my office is a short walk from them will also mean that they will come see my desk and adjust my chair and stuff if necessary. The fact that this is also affecting my sacrum and tailbone means it HURTS to sit. I am better when I am sort of lounging on my sofa, but even then I need pillows holding up certain places!

Sorry to whine... I'm just so sore and feeling bad for myself! I'm also scared of what implications this could have for my birthplan...
