Well just thought that I'd post my birth story while my princess has a nap. It may be a long one, so bear with me.
On Monday, hubby and I had dinner at my parents, which was a spicy curry (duno if that made a difference or if its pure coincidence) but felt fine the rest of the evening except for some period cramps and back pain. I decided to have a bath and an early night. At 10.30pm, I felt a lot of wetness and checked myself, and my pantyliner and pants were soaking, but not as much as there should be for full waters. I called maternity and they told me to monitor it. An hour later, I called back cuz I was still leaking, so went in to be checked out. I was 2cm dilated, and it was just my back waters that had gone. So off I went home again.
A little while later (really don't remember times anymore, it may have been 2 or 3am) but I started contracting and called maternity again, who told me to have a bath.
So off I go to run a bath...and the freaking water is off!! I phoned waterline and had a right go at the girl down the phone lol, telling her I was in labour and needed a bath immediately and to turn my damn water back on or else. She asked me to go ask if my neighbours water was off too. To which I replied 'would u want a woman in labour banging on ur door at this time of the morning asking if ur waters running?!' - at this point I had a contraction and had to pass the phone to my husband. I phoned the mw back after this and explained to her that I cudnt have a bath cuz of the water situation, so she suggested I put a hot water bottle to my back to ease the pain. So I had to remind her - I HAVE NO WATER!!!! Ugh!!
SO, she tells me to come back in.
Now ladies, I live on the 7th floor of an apartment block, and when we left to go back to the hospital, the lift was out of service!!!! I had to practically crawl down 7 flights of stairs, stopping every so often to have a contraction! I was NOT amused!
Anyway, got back to the hospital, by this stage I was crying because of the drama mixed with the pain! Got checked and was only 3cm, but a 'stretchy 3' according to the mw lol. And I was losing loads of bloody show by this stage. So she told me she'd keep me in but not send me to delivery suite yet. Was kept in admissions in a side room til 8am, then sent up to the ward to have a bath, which was nice. I bounced on the ball and went for walks (walking was agony at this stage) but I wanted to keep things moving.
After lunch I was told I was 4cm - I could have cried! But was moved to delivery suite because of how strong my contractions were, so I was put straight on the gas and air - which was just lovely!
Hours passed, my contractions got stronger and I was still 4cm dilated
so was told I couldn't have the water birth I wanted because they had to put the drip in and break my water for me. I was devastated, but the contractions really started coming thick and fast after I had the drip in. So 17hrs after my labour began, I was offered diamorphine (which I previously didn't want as it slows baby's heart rate) but I said yes to it, and it was great! I fell asleep for a while and woke up telling the mw I needed a poo, she told me it was baby's head but I refused to believe her and made her take me to the toilet so I could poo, but couldn't poo when I got there lol. She brought me back to the bed and checked me and said 'yep its definitely baby's head, do u want to push?' - music to my ears! I pushed and was told her head was out, and mw led my hand to feel her head lol. I think I only pushed for 11minutes and there she was! She was set on my chest and she didn't make a sound. She was so perfect.
My husband then cut the cord and Sophia was taken away to be cleaned, she only cried when they gave her the vitamin k injection.
So it wasn't my dream water birth, and it was a difficult 20hrs long, but my princess is here and I couldn't be more in love! I have a small tear but didn't need stitches. So the 3 of us are settling in to life as a family.
The challenge now is breastfeeding as my nips hurt like a mother! Lol.
I'll post a pic in a bit
thanks for reading
xx
