This might be the dumbest question but how much should I be giving my LO to eat.

I give him porridge for breakfast, I've been following the instructions on the back, with one spoon and add milk or water to it. He finishes this off but do I increase the amount on a weekly basis?

Yesterday I took out a quarter of purée from the jar, he could have finished it off but I didn't give it all to him. Should I be encouraging him to finish off what I have taken out or just give it to him little by little?

Just so confused over the quantity of food to give

My baby's not on solids yet but this confused me too when I asked my friend when she was feeding her baby. She said the HV advises that you can't over feed a baby and so you just keep offering until they reject it x

Just feed a reasonable amount and stop when they reject. I never made porridge to the instructions - I just added to a bowl and added water bit by bit to be honest x

If they look like they could polish off more give it to them I say! Although my eldest was rubbish at drinking his milk so I was just happy when we started weaning that he was getting something into him in. I started with portions that were probably about half one of the first stage puree jars. This was at four months BTW. Then we just gradually gave him more and more. I remember being quite nervous about weaning with my first, this time I can wait!!!

See, he seems like he can finish off whatever I've taken out but I always feel like I am over feeding him or he'll puke it all up.

I guess I just need to follow his lead and take it from there.

Surprisingly his milk intake has become so much better since starting solids

My mum says that I overfeed Felix because the 'guidelines' say 2 tablespoons full of whatever food they're having when they're weaning, but I almost always give more than that. If they're too full they'll stop, and if you're having them weighed regularly then you'll notice if their weight gain goes up quicker, I wouldn't worry about it :) xo
