softer mattress?

The mattress in my crib is VERY firm. I know they suggest a firm mattress but I think it is actually quite uncomfortable! Wondered whether you can get a mattress protector or something to make it a bit softer. Has anyone done this and found their LO slept a bit better?

Grace currently sleeps on a cot duvet in her cot, it was just cause it looked pretty made up but I think she's abit more comfy on it. In my opinion babies are just like us, some like firm and some like soft

I put Sophie's sleeping bags down on hers and it looked so comfy xx
