I hardly slept last night, apart from a few minutes of dozing while sitting upright, as as soon as I lay down I got the most vicious heartburn. And now it's there AGAIN! Is it coincidence or can it be pregnancy-related? And what can I do to make it stop. It's making me very irritable now.

Its pregnancy related hon! I had it TERRIBLY and then my son was born with a head full of hair so maybe its true what they say?

I used to eat Tums like they were going out of fashion!!!

x

yep pregnancy related im afraid! Ive been eating Rennies all night!

I've got it and have run out of gaviscon, dont wanna go doctors to get some more, just wanna sit at home...

yup deffo pregnancy related i also got it now, think im going to have a hairy baby lol :rotfl:

I get it badly too.......rennies generally do the trick and when all else fails I turn to the gaviscon advance which is so hard to swallow - its really horrid stuff!

Its most definitely pregnancy related!

yea its pregnancy related. Some women suffer terribly with it, i was lucky and only started with it a week ago.
I would deffinately recomend remegel, you can get it in pharmacies (possibly supermarkets not sure) its just a sweet that you chew and i find as soon as you've swallowed you can actually feel it start working. Within 10 minutes its gone. Comes back within a few hours but then just have another. I cant believe just how effective they are, but then some women get on better with gaviscon or rennies so just find what suits you. Dont sit and suffer though, fortunately most people can get rid of it pretty quickly even if its not permanently the relief makes all the differnce.

hope it works for you xx

ive been getting really bad heartburn for weeks now, i go to bed every night with a pack of gaviscon

Thanks for all the answers.
I'll go to a pharmacy tomorrow straightaway. It's another night to grit my teeth through, but I'm just too tired to drive.

I hate heartburn.. I use Gaviscon chewable tablets and they seem to work. I have started eating smaller meals but more often and it seems to work. Also, if I am hungry I eat lots of fruit on empty stomach.. used to eat it after food as a dessert and it was killing me.

Someone suggested putting something under the legs at the head of the bed to elevate it. Trying to find some bricks or pieces of wood to do that. If that works for me at night I'll be pleased and will just need to find a solution to get rid of it during the day!

I had terrible heartburn last time virtually from day one (and she did have ALOT of hair) but (touching wood) it has been much less this time. I have identified that tomatoes in any form and raw onions set it off, so have avoided those so that might be one reason. this baby is also much lower this time, and I think that helps as well.
The only relief last time was sleeping more or less upright on loads of pillows, or sleeping in the nursing chair. oh an gaviscon tablets.

am living on gaviscon its terrible, the amount i have spent am probably keeping them in business lol

Yeah I have this too - all night and its driving me to the brink of insanity. I'm fine sat bolt upright, as soon as I lie down a tiny bit, I get the worst burning pain in my chest. I use Gaviscon Advance and Rennies Ice tablets. Also, try not to eat after 8pm. Milk doesn't help so dont bother trying that! Even though there is no 'cure', at least this thread shows we are not alone!

i had this terribly about 3 weeks ago after having it mildly throughout my pregnancy. a friend of mine suggested peppermint tea. i have one cup in the morning and it has sorted it out completely, haven't even had to touch the gaviscon ever since! get yourselves some girls, it was a miracle cure for me! finally was able to eat and sleep!
hope that helps :D
