Ok so i really need to kick the habit but i heard just going cold turkey can bring on miscarriage etc,

anyone else trying to quit, its not that im finding it hard its just not knowing what to do x

It can sometimes cause stress but it's far better to quit than carry on for baby.

I gave up a few days after getting my positive after smoking about 15 a day for 5 years and I now have a healthy 14 month old :)

Good luck with quitting! :yay:

I quit smoking as I had troubles trying to concieve. But when my mum was pregnanct with me, the midwife told her, it was better for me if she just cut down instead of quitting altogether as it can cause stress to the baby. My friends were the same, got down to about 3-5 a day. Obviously smoking isn't good when ur pregnant, but its better then stressing ur body out. I'd see what the midwife suggests but just cut down a lot until u can come off completely. Oh and my friends had perfect pregnancies and babies :) not under weight or anything xx

Its true that its stressful but its worth just trying to stop completly and if you think its causing you too much stress and your getting yourself worked up to much then try just cutting down. Its always worth a shot!

Maybe try cutting down?

Eg if you have 20 a day just have 18 for next few days then down to 16 then down to 14 and then you'll be down to zero in few weeks? Easy for me to say as a no smoker but it's worth a o? X

Im finding it very hard to quit 2. smoke hand rolled with menthol tip. was expecting a lecture from my mw but she said nothing? maybe if she had said something it would be different?
gave up straight away when i found out i was carrying my dd x x

thanks guys, i have cut down since my positive test and have managed to go from up to 5 a day down to 1 to 2 so will defo have a word with mw when i sort one out x

I finally managed to quite after my 12 week scan and I feel so much better for it but it was hard! Ask your doctor or midwife for help. My midwife sent someone to come and visit me in my home once a week to see how I was getting on, she'd offer advise, give aids such as patches etc and do a carbon monoxide test. I think seeing my baby really made it hit home and feel more real for me and made me feel guilty for doing it. I found personally the patches didnt help for me, I used those e-lites for a while as it was more the hand action for me.
Good Luck with it though hun, it is hard but well worth it. And think how much extra cash you'll have to treat you and baba :) x

Totally sympathise with this, trying to quit myself but im just not getting anywhere as my stomach feels like its going to pop out when i dont have a fag. So, id say cutting downs better than just dropping the habit thats taken years to form and thats going to stress you out big time just stopping dead. :)

When I found out I was pregnant with Oscar I quit that day and was pretty stressed for about 2 weeks, then it got alot easier, but I missed smoking every day and started again when Oscar was 5 months old! I quit again this time the day I found out (Sunday) and am handling it alot better. I was only smoking 4 a day so not too much to cut out, but I do miss them but I know it's for the best and not necessarily for ever if I so chose in the future!

ok so am gonna have my last one tonight and see how it goes seeing as the midwife told me to x

Just take each day as it comes hun. It's so not easy, I nearly ripped OHs head off a while ago because I find this time of day really hard not smoking. I'm on day 3 of no fags today!! I think day 3 is meant to be the hardest? Not sure though! Good luck xxxx

i used to smoke about 10 a day now i can go with having just having 2 and i'm fine :) good luck trying to quit hun :) xx

i stopped when i got my bfp. smoked the last of the pack i had and never looked back. 15 weeks on im not bothered at all. yeah i miss smoking but its not a physical craving and never really was, for about a week i wanted to kill my OH and steal his fags but it got easier lol.

Id look into as well how smoking occurs in your daily routine. I know with OH he doesnt physically need to smoke but its part of his routines through the day eg. he gets in the car to set off to work and he will have a fag. He has said once the baby is here he will try to quit fully as he has already cut down because I wont allow him to smoke around me. The plan is that we are going to try and find something else for him to do to replace the urge of routine to light up a fag so Im thinking possibly have a boiled sweet or something and the unwrapping of the paper will hopefully/maybe replace needing to do something with his hands.

cheers guys i managed to cut down to one just after my dinner in the evening and so ill see how that goes, ill try and have a pudding at the time id have my cigarette x

I gave up the day I got my BFP. I was a smoker of 20 a day for 10 years and I thought it would be hard but it actually wasn't. The thought of my LO inside me kept me going. He's 4 months now and I still manage to not smoke, I couldn't imagine hugging my lovely clean baby with horrible smokey clothes/breath/hands-uggghh!

Read Allen Carr 'The Easy way to stop Smoking" I read it 4 days after I found out I was pregnant.

I sadly had a M/C (and since a Chemical pregnancy) but I never started smoking again :) I also do not think the M/C was at all linked to stopping smoking!

That book was a Godsend.

(I am over five months as a non smoker now and have not missed it for a moment - I used to smoke 10 /15 cigs a day for 15 years!!)

I've never heard of quitting causing a msicarriage but I smoked and had a miscarriage, and then when I got pregnant again there was no way I was going to smoke as in the back of my mind I do wonder if the smoking had soemthing to do with it.
Stop altogether if you can, thats got to be the best thing you can do xxx

I quit when I found out I was pregnant the first time, and have been smoking recently if I am pregnant again I will stop totally for the whole 9 months, I think its going to be harder this time but I just think about the little baby and then I think its not worth it if I lose him or her x
