when r u supposed to get one after giving birth x

I was told to book it with 6week check, but no way was someone getting that personal with my foof at 6weeks.

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

I see they never mentioned anything to me when I went at 6 weeks

You are not supposed to have one until 3 months after birth as it can come back with false result.

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Yeah knopks right hun, when baby is 12 weeks old thats when you can have one, it gives the cells time to get back to normal although my results came back as borderline changes anyway so back in March :wall2:

xx

They would not give me one as I wasn't 25 , I turned 25 a few weeks ago so will be booking an appointment . My aunty died last year if cervical cancer so there is no way am missing it x

Minimum 12 weeks after giving birth, but only if you're over 25 and due anyway.

My gp did my smear test when i went fo my 6 week check. I said i'd had a letter telling me i needed one now i'm 25 but did i need to wait and she said no and did it there and then.

That's actually wrong, but a lot of GPs don't know the guidelines. The reason they shouldn't do a smear until 12 weeks post partum is that the cells on the cervix have been disturbed by giving birth and it is more likely to come back as inadequate and need to be done again, which involves you waiting a further 12 weeks from the test.

I am a bit confused though is it a must after having a babyx

I just realised - will our answers be different based on area - in Scotland you get them from 21 - not 25!!

That's not what the NHS (England) guidelines say. Only if you are due one, ie it is either 3 years since your last or you had a previous abnormal result and are due sooner.

L_maclean, you're quite right, the guidelines are different for Scotland and Wales.

I had one when i turned 25 last year so not due yet then

In Wales you have them every year from the age of 20, I couldn't have my first as I was pregnant so I had it 12 weeks after I gave birth, I was still 20 years old :) xxx

I am from wales but live in england where it ever 3 years

Only if you need one. i had one last year a few weeks before i fell pregnant so i wont need one for another couple of years.
