Not pregnancy related, but just wondered if anyone else uses a slow cooker and what recipes they use... I'm looking for inspiration.
I'm making sausage casserole tonight and gammon in coke tomorrow .

Thanks x

Gosh... I got a slow cooker, used it once and now it sits in a cupboard! I think I should dig it out!

There is loads of those sachet with spices you can buy for a slow cooker and they have recipes at the back. Maybe you can try that x

I used to, I just threw all sorts in, some meat, veg and a sachet of sauce, just called it all 'stew' lol. Good for curries, chilli, joints of meat x

I had one before and never even opened the box but thinking with a toddler going to afternoon nursery and new born it may be very useful! The sausage casserole is smelling delightful, also I'm a nightmare for not eating this pregnancy so not standing over it cooking may help!
Oh I will buy those sachets thank you!
Keep seeing people talk about gammon/ham in cola so that's a new try x

I love using my slow cooker. I always try to cook anything in it.

Ive recently tried cooking jacket potatoes in it and was so tasty.
I always do chilli con carne in it now too. I think its actually great to have when pregnant because you can just throw anything in it and just leave it all day.

Oh they are great when you work or have a baby

I fry off my meatballs in pan but tyen transfer to slow cooker and add homemade tomato pasta sauce and slow cook for afternoon - they are perfectly soft then to add to pasta

I cook turkey legs (£4.50) for one huge one chopped into two from morrisons ( looks like two legs!)
I have an oval slow cooker i use for these and add 2/3rds water and cook on slow all day. Great for roast dinner, turkey salads or sarnies or to add to stirfrys or stroganoffs or freeze till needed.

We also discovered recently " fakeaway kebabs"
500g lamb mince
Pyrat kebab sachet from polish section in sainsburys 0.35 p!
Mix well with hands, squash into a pulp to get air holes out, form a shape like log. Wrapp loosely into foil. Sit onto a couple of large foil balls in bottom of slow cooker and add some water for steam ( meat will sit above water on foil balls). 3 hours on high before tea and bam kebab meat to slice. Make shreaded salad, buy some sourccreme dip, salsa etc and aldi do huge cheep pitta breads. Toast them and cut a smile in one side to open easily a huge pocket :)

We do pulled pork...stick a pork shoulder on low all day...we usually have ours in from 7am-7pm. I put a little water in, some people use cider, apple juice etc.
When it's done remove the fat , drain the liquid and shred with two forks. I cover in bbq sauce and a little water and put back on low for 30 mins or so.

Serve on batches with wedges & corn on the cob. The leftovers we have on a jacket potato, in a wrap, or make pasties with ready made puff pastry yum!

Xx

Great recipe ideas, i'll be robbing some of them! :) I don't use mine that often, but happen to have used it last night.

I fried chicken legs in a pan and then added them to the slow cooker. Briefly fried onions and garlic in the same pan and then also added them to the slow cooker. Then put in a tin of tomatoes, bacon lardons, chopped mushrooms and quite a few sprigs of fresh thyme, salt and pepper. Left it on medium for 3.5 hours and served with boiled baby new potatoes. Easy peasy Chicken Chasseur and was delish!

Lollie how do you make fudge in a slow cooker??? will you share your recipe?

I love mine! I am not one for recipes as such though, I just chuck in whatever I have in the cupboards/ fridge and make casseroles and soups etc. my mum has been known to make some awesome curries in hers x

I do curries bases (love curries with coconut milk but this separates if left in there all day so we add it for the last 30mins), Hungarian goulash, pulled pork, ribs that we then crisp up in the oven (so tender), main use is making up matches of mince, onion, carrot and celery - then use this as the base for spag Bol, shepherds pie, chill etc.
Also done buffalo chicken wings in there which were amazing.

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions. Must. Say this slow cooker has been the best money I've ever spent, 3 nights in a row I've managed to eat a full meal (haven't ate majority of pregnancy!!)
Sausage casserole Monday
Cola Cooked gammon yesterday
And bbq pulled pork today!!
Now I have a big shopping list for tomorrow after reading all your lovely suggestions!
