Hi ladies

im just wondering what is best to use for a newborn in a moses basket now the weather is getting colder when sleeping.

Are the sleeping bags best or im i better using a blanket. Ive heard the sleeping bags are safer as babies cant wriggle as much in them.

Sleeping bags are great as long as baby is big enough. If they are little then they can wriggle into them and it can go over their face. I started using me a sleeping bag when my lg was 3 months.

I've got both, will be using a blanket at first, as El1en says, newborns tend to be too small for a sleeping bag. My understanding is that sleeping bags can be used once they can no longer go over the baby's head. Before then I'll be using cellular blankets.

I have a sleeping bag theyre brilliant. Im not using it just yet as she wil only be 3 weeks tomorrow. Id definately stick to blankets for now tho xx

Blankets are fine when they are little in the Moses basket. Once they get older and move about more they can wiggle out of their blankets so then sleeping bags are better :)

I would stick with cellular blankets for a newborn. My lo didn't weigh enough for a sleeping bag until he was 6 weeks old and even then the neck hole was too big on some of them (they're not all the same!). With blankets you can layer up or down which I think is better for a newborn anyway xx

I used gro bags from day one with my daughter as she was over the weight and neck size etc. Hoping to do the same with this baby x

The best sleeping bags for little ones (8lb upwards) are the ones with the extra poppers under the arms designed for smaller babies.

I had a swaddle bag which is for 0-3 months and made of stretchy fabric for my Lo when he was first born as he was wriggly even as a newborn and would get his arms out of his blankets. X

Blankets for babies in Moses baskets. Sleeping bags for when baby is bigger and in cot.

Ive always used sleeping bags in a moses just fine.

I didn't start using a sleeping bag until my girly was 6/7 weeks as she was too small at 6lb 13oz. I swaddled in the start until she kicked the covers off I knew it was time to invest in a sleeping bag.

I just dressed my baby in sleeping suit and put a Swaddly on, worked perfectly!

I have shawls for when they are born with blankets, think it makes them feel more secure also, when they are a bit bigger and start wriggling around I'll put them in sleep bags.

We will be using a swaddle from The Gro Company at first, which is available in different togs I think for different times of the year, then moving on to their sleeping bags, which are also available in different togs for different seasons.

My sister in law is a midwife assistant and they have been told to advise mums not to use the bags until baby is at least three months old, preferably 6 months old, after a couple of cot death cases in the county, where they think over-heating in a sleeping bag may have been a contributary factor.
