Hiya,

Ive posted about sleeping issues before but it seems to have got much much worse now, to the point where im thinking of hiring a Sleep consultant. .. (I don't want to do this but we're all worn out, I've ordered Elizabeth Pantleys book so will give her techniques a try first though)

So at 3 months our lo started sleeping through the night, well for 8 hours. He did this until he was around 4 and a bit months. He had a cold and developed croup so was up several times a night coughing which resulted in us having to have him sat up asleep on our laps (recommended by gp as raising cot, calpol plug in and everything else tried wasn't working) he had cough for around 5 weeks.

However it appears that he's got into the habit now of waking up, when he had the cough he was waking himself up coughing but now he's just waking up constantly for no reason. Fri, Sat and Sun night he was up 12/13 times, and all this week it's been on average 7/8 times per night. When he wakes up he wants to feed and has a minute or so sucking then falls asleep and I can put him straight back in cot other times he crys and crys then once I pick him up out of cot he falls straight asleep in my arms!

Friends I've discussed this with all recommend controlled crying but this is the one thing that I will NOT do (I'm not trying to start a debate but it's just not for us).

I should add that he's 6 months next week and we will start weaning then and I've been told that this may help him Sleep?

If anyone has any advice on what else I could try that'd be brilliant.
Thank you sooooo much for reading x

Hi have you tried swaddling? The tightness of the swaddle might make him feel secure and not need to wake for a cuddle?
It's only an idea my lo didn't really like swaddling cos she couldn't get her arms up to her face

HI Tinkerbell. I don't have much advice, I am mummy to a bad sleeper and won't do CIO/CC again after 2 separate but disastrous nights trying this (its not right for everyone).

We went with gentle approaches in Pantley's book. My LG is now 16 months and we have had periods of sleeping through but then bad patches again.

I ended up using a e-mail sleep package from babysleepsite.com. I got a 3 email package and so far, I've just used my second e-mail to them (they do a sleep plan plus 3 follow ups). I think it was great value for money vs a sleep consultant, and they advise you based on your own parenting philosophies rather than sell you one-size fits all.

Much sympathy, its so not fun being chronically sleep deprived!

No advice but wanted to over my support...there is a mobile type thing called dream machine..which is meant to activate (by movement sensor) and soothe them if they wake in night...i got it for about £20... Honestly i havent really tried it yet...so dont know how good it will be have a look atthe reviews...first glimpses looks complicated but does sound like it may be useful to you.

Sleep deprivition is a form of torture in some countries xxxx really feel for you

I went through something similar with my LO, if I put her in our bed she snuggled into the pillow and went to sleep. So we got her a quilt and pillow which worked great (I know it's not for everyone) this worked until around 10 months. At 13 months we had a blip and I tried cc which I swore I never would and it took 15 minutes the first night and 10 the night after then I could put her down awake and no crying so please keep an open mind. I was adamant I wouldn't try it but set a limit of 45 mins in my head to see if it helped lol, I've never looked back but I know it's not for everyone x

I have the dream machine!! .. I wish I had bought it sooner. It helped soothe our LO when he was younger so much. its brilliant.. in our experience anyway. Hes now 9 months so just want to play with it. SO don't use it. But its worth a go! x
