So alot of ladies know im treetrunks because my oh said my legs were like treetrunks in the past, ok so im a size 14, big boobs, big bum.
GP didn't see anything to worry about.
Given we are all brainwashed by the media to be size 8 how do you ladies think your size affects fertility? Xxx

hi I think size 14 is average in the UK , I am in between sizes (12 and 14) so yes I am ok with that but I am not sure if this affects my fertility, I hope not as I can't lose weight at the moment

For me my cycles are worse when I am heavier but I do have pcos. xx

I know more thin people who have struggled with fertility than fatter people. I don't think 14 is 'fat' either. I think there is more to it than excess weight but I also think that it can be an issue depending on your body and how it works. I think a good balanced diet has an influence whatever size you are too, if you are missing something it doesn't matter how big or small you are.

I wasn't well a while ago and put on a lot of weight (although interestingly didn't change much in the dress size) and it did knock my cycles more than usual but like millie I have pcos so it doesn't take much to play havoc with my cycles.

Best thing to do is to eat well and do a bit (not excessive as this also impacts fertility) of exercise whatever shape or size you are.

A size 14 is, in my opinion a healthy weight, unless of course it doesn't correlate with your BMI. Weight (whether you are under or over) causes hormonal imbalances which can either delay O or prevent O completely. I say if a woman eats a balanced diet, gets some exercise and has relatively healthy habits, there is no real reason that weight could be a fertility issue.

It's more about your BMI. I'm about a size 12-14 but within my BMI.

isn't the UK average 12-14 these days? a lot of my family females are on the 'larger' side, I have an uncle with 4 daughters who range from sizes 18-24, two of them had problems conceiving (although I'm not 100% sure it was down to weight for one of them) but they eventually did, the bigger issue for my cousins was labouring, all but one of their 6 pregnancies was a c-sec. anyway I'm getting off the point, a size 14 is normal and it shouldn't have any effect but... maybe if you're not feeling great/healthy maybe move more and eat a bit healthier to be the best version of you; that cant hurt fertility (that goes for anyone of any size btw)

I'd batter my oh if he said that to me lol, I'm between 14/16 but I'm tall (5ft9) and my bmi is in normal range, I don't think it matters on weight as such as I've known people size 24 fall pregnant I agree with snowbee ive known slim women struggle more, I heard size 16 is the perfect size but with today all the size zero people no wonder there's so much eating disorders out there xx

I'm about a size 12 - 14 although I would have been a size 10 when we started this journey (and before we started comfy married life lol)! My periods are far more regular now than they would have been when I was thinner! My SIL is quite a big girl and she has never had any problem conceiving although labour and the after effects have been very tough on her. My cousin is the opposite end of the scale, I'm fairly convinced she has an eating disorder, she is way too thin and it took her around four years to conceive.

I guess it depends how long your trying before you take weight into account?I wouldn't say lose weight before ttc but if you are trying and finding issues might be a good place to start?

I am 5ft5 and was a size 14 after my son and my cycles did change slightly but then I had also just had a baby. I wouldn't have says 14 is big but then for me looking back it wasn't a healthy weight for me.

I have know both ends of scale. Both people too heavy or thin to conceive and then also really heavy people conceiving no issues. I guess it varies?

xxx

Just to mention, I used to be a size 6 and I think my hormones were completely unbalanced. Thin is not necessarily better when it comes to fertility. I was told that the older you get the more weight affects your fertility - but I was 19 stone at that point. As soon as I got to around 10 stone my hormones stabilised.
