The BBC Reports

Forensic investigator Professor David Barclay, who specialises in cold cases, said blood found in the couple's hire car could conceivably be from their twins.

He told BBC East Midlands Today that siblings can share as many as 15 out of 20 DNA indicators.

I'm still keeping an open mind.

But even still why would one of the twins be in the boot of the car??

They wouldn't have to be. The blood, hair, skin or whatever it was could easily be transferred to the boot on clothing or other belongings.

I'm sure the DNA between siblings is different as when watching some chat show with paternity tests they sed they are always correct when they are between say brother and brother but not between twins

I think theres too many questions to make a conclusion with this story. If we could pick out who did it from whats on the news then im sure the police would have done by now. They know what there doing, since the parents are suspects im sure we'll find out soon wether they are and are not innocent. Im sure they can only be suspects for a certain amount of time? (or was that something else? im confused)

yeah but its harder to detect than say my DNA to yours.

plus it would be easier to detect whose DNA it is if say they had the same mother but a different father.
however when siblings have the same parents then its harder to detect whose is who because its basically the same DNA (ie 50% mum 50% dad) but just mixed up in a different way, does that make sense?

As i said before, i wounder what they used to get a 'sample' of madelines DNA to compare it to any other DNA found?

if all this was true why have they made sucha big deal over it loads of little girls must go missing but we dont see them on news everyday if they had killed her they should want 2 keep it on the low rather than drawing loads of attention 2 themselves even if it would make them look innocent

It could have been a hairbrush, tooth brush...

I'm still open minded.

Again,I don't know how they would have the time to find such a good hiding place & noone found her during an intensive search of the area over the following days & obviously it will have been a search of the area not just the hotel complex.

I will be amazed if it is the parents....the DNA results are far too random.

yeah i suppose, but a hairbrush could have been used on the twins aswell.

Ah well i guess we'll never know, i just wondered how they know they actually have madelines DNA with a sample which is known to be from her (like a mouth swab or something)? toothbrush sound very probable though, thanks puddle i never thoguh of that  .

you would think if they were so conviced she's dead and buried close by (by the parents) that they would have come up with a body by now. They must be pretty crap at searching.
I wonder if they tested the parents clothing for sign of soil, mud, grass etc from the dig.

Sounds like bloody keystone cop stuff to me...... :x

Can I just say something please which is my BIGGEST concern here...

The Media has competely turned its focus here to the fact that the parents are guilty or sources of guilt are being unvelied.

However, I fear, that the parents are innocent, & if they are and Maddie is out there somewhere, then my God isn't this fantastic for whoever has taken her?

She COULD STILL POSSIBLY BE ALIVE & the upsetting thing about all of this is everyone is falling to the belief that it is the parents & assuming that she is dead.

I have read so many 'rest in peace' statements over the net & it's so sad,has everyone just given up??

I think that until anyone is proven guilty of this girls murder then more energy should be put into the hope that she is alive & her being found.

If the parents are guilty, justice will be done but personally I tink the issue here is don't give up yet!! As above, if someone else has her, then sadly they are being given a very easy ride at the moment :(

KEEP LOOKING FOR MADELEINE!!

As long as there's no body, there's still a chance!

I agree kirly. Apparently the search had significantly dies down 24 hours after they were first called. its such a shame but i think after a certain amount of time with absolutely no leads or true sightings, then peopl just cant comprehend how she can still be alive if no-one has seen her or there is no trace of her.

I think you right though, the media have totally lost focus on the fact that its lead people to believe she is dead and someone could therefore miss a sighting if she is still alive :( .

it cant be the twins DNA yes the dna could share as many as
15 markers out of 20 but they would never get a 99.9 percent
match for maddie with the twins dna..
they have hinted but not confirmed that it is blood and this seems highly likely
as they have also said it did not come from transfer...ie its not one of the twins as they werent in the boot either.

i'm also keeping an open mind but as grissom says (for any
CSI fans..) the evidence tells the story!

Just watched bbc news where it showed an interview with one of the Portugese senior investigating officers of the case stating that the reports that DNA reports were an exact match with Madelines were untrue.

In (another) bizarre twist a Portuguese paper claims that DNA evidences that Gerry is NOT Madeleine's father

Oh he must be!! She looks like her Dad.

It says on Sky news that the Police have just handed over 10 boxes of evidence on the McCanns - again this could be exaggerated and there is only 1 box!

i suspected that ages ago. She was conceived via IVF so chances are shes not his.
But its all rumours and gutter press. The portugese have nothing better to do

Poor Madeleine, this is such a farce. And the way the media are making random crap up is disgusting. Have they forgotten there is a child at the heart of all this?!! :x
