siberian husky who constantly pulls!

he's a pain in the arse that yard dog. Just got back and my horse had lost a shoe in the field spent AGES looking for it and that fools running around ears flying everywhere with it in his mouth! Still not got it off him- hoping he puts it down over night and I can rescue it in the morning lol!

Your stables aren't in Warrington by any chance? The dog you refer to sounds an awful lot like the one at the stables my SIL keeps her horse lol x

Nope its a yard near preston, between the sneaky big fella and the little un who things he's part of the mafia or something it's kind of funny! loll

I work in dog rescue and I am a dog training instructor so hopefully I can help a bit!

Mind you, seems to have gotten a bit heated previously so I shall tread carefully. My thoughts on that particular area of discussion are that the majority of dogs bred today are not used for the original intended purpose as most are kept purely as pets. Right then, enough on that! :-)

I would (as has been previously mentioned) use some form of headcollar as this will give you lots more control. Take really smelly and tasty treats out with you when you walk him (liver, cheese, hotdog etc) and give him a treat when he walks with you- be generous at this stage and reward every few paces. If he pulls, just stop and the design of the headcollar is such that it should turn his head to look at you and you can then encourage him back next to you, walk another few paces and then reward. Never yank or pull on the headcollar as you can do serious damage to his neck. Over time as his behaviour improves, you can gradually phase out the treats.

Try putting the headcollar on him when you feed him or play with him before you walk him on it, so he can get used to wearing it when doing something he enjoys, to help build a positive association with it.

I know this is only brief and basic but I hope it helps.

I love dogs, we have *counts* 7 at the minute

We're getting another borde collie in november - winstons actual brother

Our friends who have bred his mum again have 5 atm and might keep one of the current pups, and are breeding winstons sister in the next couple of months and might keep one of her pups too lol

I'd love to have a massive pack, but we just don't have the room atm

Urgh we're on the dog shopping as soon as deposits put on house! (That way if carpets get ruined- they aint the ones I wanted anyway!) Can see us ending up with more dogs then can be counted though and OH wants a springer spaniel..... I said a king charles cavalier.... we shall see loll!! Though we both like the look of a collie if we can't make our minds up loll!! May end up with one of each ...

Kinda like I've done with fish and horses in the past loll!! Said I'd only ever have the one horse..... **cough** =D

Ah we also have a husky and she has a harness when walking on lead, like Emily said treats normally do the trick to get her back in line. Like yours she brilliant off lead. We also have a labrador, who is perfect and walks to heel off lead, we're working on that one with the husky :) xx

my new husky is on his way home as we speak im so excited!!!
