Geez my LO has me on tender hooks when she's given finger foods. No matter how big or small I make the pieces that I give to her, she just attempts to stuff the whole portion in!

Naturally I want to give her the option of learning how to eat foods herself, but it's getting nerve wrecking where she'll retch and I'm scared she's going to choke!

I try not to make a big deal out of it and only step in to remove the food from her mouth when she appears unable to free it herself, as I don't want to create an issue with food for her.

Has anyone else had this with their LO and if yes any tips please?

Thanks ;)

Jack stuffs things in his mouth too! He doesn't choke on it though he's the opposite and spits it out so nothing actually gets eaten!!

For the past few weeks i've been cutting everything extra small and only giving him 1-2 bits of everything at a time so that he has room in his mouth to chew and swallow properly. I'll gradually give him more and in bigger bits and see how he gets on.

Hope that helps? x

LOL just posted about this earlier too in my finger food phobia tread , Bev posted couple of good links worth a read

Clairebear22 - I've started to do the same with giving smaller pieces and just handing them to her separately rather than setting them in front of her. I don't think she understands that you don't eat them all in one go

Hugsy - Yeh hun, I just saw that literally after I'd posted mine...oops :)

He does shove it all in but gags and spits it out again  then eats it again :oooo:

I also took the approach of smaller bits :) x

Good to know im not alone anyway lol
