Does a baby naturally start to be awake more in the day and sleep more at night?

Or at any point, should you start to try to keep baby awake more in the day so they sleep at night?

Mine is generally quite good in the night but she doesnt have any real pattern yet so its hit and miss whether she has an awake period in the night. But she still does sleep A LOT in the day. I know newborns need a lot of sleep and a few weeks ago i was advised let her sleep, but should that change?

i have never woke either of mine i feel if they are asleep they need it

only wake him if i have to like to go out or something , he still sleeps loads durring the day , not so much at night but were riding it out

iv NEVER woken millie! apart from once or twice when she be asleep in the car and the journey ended or something like that! i remember thinking that too she used to sleep loads, but she found her own pattern. some mums do tho x

The only time I've ever had to wake Isaac is if he's in the car seat asleep and we are getting out of the car or if he poo's (he no longer cares if he sleeps in a pooey nappy  ) I'd personally let her sleep, never wake her unless its unavoidable basically, very best wishes

I've started to keep harry awake from 6pm onwards as he was sleeping through to 2am then wanting to be up. I just bathed him and played with him tho so he doesn't get grumpy, mean mummy that I am 8)

I was always told never wake a sleeping baby if they are asleep longer than normal its probably because they need it, if the baby was hungry they would soon let you know. Also whilst they are sleeping they are growing and learning new things :)

Ella used to sleep loads during the day, but from 6 weeks onwards she started to get really awake during the day. She still has the odd days where she can sleep most of the day and still be fine at night. As Princess_Puddles said if she's sleeping alot then she must need it.

we let Harriet do her own thing but when she got to 6 weeks and was sleeping all day, some times 6 hours straight and being awake all night!!! Hv told us to try and keep her awake during the day and its helped swicth her bosy clock, so now shes sleeping the 6 hours at night

I try not to let ellie go too long during the day without feeds cos if she misses them shes up most of the night, but usually no unless shes well over a feed then ill try and gently wake her but generally she doesnt sleep for too long during the day anyway :)

thanks for the replies people, i think i'll leave her for now then :D
