last night i put leah down at 10.30pm and she had been fed, changed, and was perfectly happy but she just wasn't tired and was kicking her arms and legs about.

she was like this for 2 hours until 12.30am which could have been a decent 2 hours sleep for me... but i couldnt go to sleep because she kept kicking her cover off so i didnt want to fall asleep until she was so i could cover her back up.

would it be worth getting a sleeping bag so i could sleep while she's still awake??
and is it safe to leave them like that in their crib?

if so, is there different togs and which should i go for?
thanks

after this post the other day, and seeing that i couldnt get a sleeping bag for newborn... mrs_tommo kindly offered me Imogen's old grobag because it didnt fit her anymore.
so of course i accepted!! and ive had the best 2 nights sleep ever! she has been just the right temperature and no worry from me about her kicking her covers off... and she looks adorable in it it too!!

here's a pic but its not clear cos i took it on my phone this morning just as she was waking up!!
so thanks sarah!

I'd definately recommend one. The day I bought one for Jack was the night he slept through for the first time. Other nights he'd been waking up cold cos he'd kicked the covers off himself :wall:

Here are the togs and what you put underneath and what temp the room is:

Yeah I'd get her one. They are so handy and completely safe because they can't sink down into them whereas covers can eaily go over their face. She may settle more if she is warm and cozy. Babies also like being swaddled so a sleeping bag / Gro bag is the the next best thing, but miles safer. As for the tog I'm not sure, they do winter and summer ones so get whatever you think depending on how warm it is in her bedroom. The bedroom thermometers are good to make sure its not too hot or too cold.

:D

They are also handy for stopping legs getting caught in cot bars

Definitely get one. I wouldn't be able to sleep if Ryan didn't have one cos I'd be worried about the blanket going over his head :)

Make sure you get a couple if you can so you have one when the other is in the wash and incase of leakages during the night :D oh and I don't like the ones with a zip, Isaac had one from motherare that poppered up :)

I have one but don't use it. If they had arms in I might be more bothered, but why be all warm and cosy and then have your arms out?

I swaddle Abigail, just like I did Jonah. He still likes to be wrapped tight in his blanket with his duvet over the top which is left over from being swaddled I think.

Have you tried swaddling her Kim?

leland is a deffo candiate for these

he wont be swaddled and has his arms out above is head anyway and now kicks his covers off regually ! ive wondered if i should put a cardy on him lol but just makes sure his wearing a sleepsuit that has those alll in one scratch mitts !

Isaac usually slept with both arms above his head. I think if they had arms in they would overheat  Swaddling is nice for babies though :)

thanks fr the replies :D
would mothercare be the best place to get them from?
because ive seen sleeping bags in matalan but are they not the proper ones??

also.. is it safe to sleep while they are left awake in their cot?
im scared of going to sleep unless she is first!

I'd say get one from matalan hun, you don't have to go to mothercare, just make sure the material is nice and not cheap and nasty, common sense really which I know you have  As for going to sleep while Leah is awake I don't see why you can't. As long as she is in a safe place, warm and happy then she'll be fine having a look around and a gurgle while you have a nap. I expect though that your instincts will kick in and not let you fall into a deep sleep anyway. When you are a mum you never seem to deep sleep and always wake up when they wake up. Even now with Isaac I sometimes seem to wake up just a fraction before him, like I can sense him if you know what I mean.

:D

Sorry....I just remembered...babies always have cooler hands than the rest of their bodies so if you are worried they might be cold always feel inside their vest on their chest and that is a good indicator of how warm they are

We were given one from Matalan when Evie was first born and it was absolutely fine. Unless you have your heating tanked up a winter weight one would be good at the moment :D

Just a note, can't remember what Leah was when she was born, or what she weighs now, but the matalan ones say not to use until babba is 10lb+ :D (I think the proper growbag ones are slightly less)

If I could recommend ONE thing to a new mum it would be a baby sleeping bag, I honestly wouldn't be without mine.

When Austin was smaller he had a fetish for covering his face, so I was terrified of giving him a blanket. Then when he was older he wriggled LOADS and would have kicked a blanket off in seconds. Now he tends to sleep quite peacefully but I sleep better knowing that he's warm.

The matalan one should be fine, I've got a grobag and a sainsbury's own brand sleeping bag at the moment and they're both the same (except the sainsbury's one has poppers & the grobag has a zip - doesn't really matter to me or Austin).

Definitely get one, they're brilliant!

RE sleeplng while she's awake, if you have a baby who is happy to be awake in her cot then take full advantage! If she needs you she'll cry and you will wake up.

I started using one for Robbie when he started sleeping in his cot! They are great, and I would defo reccommend! I need another...Ebay here I come!

I love our sleeping bag (we got a M'care 2.5 tog one) as Finn hates his arms confined in blankets. Also I think that he realises that when he goes into his sleeping bag, it's bedtime.
