Im currently 29 weeks.

I have been having problems with my wisdom tooth since before I fell pregnant, my dentist said he was unable to extract the tooth because of the way the root is and said I would need it done in hospital under GA, due to waiting lists this wasn't organized in time and I didn't have my initial consultation at the hospital to book the procedure in until last month as GA is not safe when pregnant I have been told I now need to wait until I give birth in June and the procedure was booked at the end of July.

The tooth is now causing me severe pain to the point I cant sleep at night. My dentist who isn't very helpful in general has told me all I can really take is paracetamol and I just have to deal with the pain.

Does anyone have any ideas I can try as I am in agony.

Can you get a second opinion? If its infected you might need antibiotics to take away the pain?

Unfortunately I saw a consultant at the hospital aswell and they said that without doing the extraction the pain will keep coming back.

Can you not even get antibiotics to get you through until June? It seems like a long time to have to be in pain otherwise? I hope you feel better soon.

Because it’s not actually an infection but the way the root is grown antibiotics won’t help. Paracetamol barely touches it so just wondering if anyone has a remedy that works

Have you tried alternating hot and cold compresses? Just hot a hot/cold flannel to the side of the affected face.

I've used clove oil, rubbed on the affected area before. It acts as a numbing agent and helps to relieve pain. Not used it while pregnant though so you have to see if it was safe to use.

Pain wise, you could go see your GP. They'll might be able to help with the pain more than the dentist can. I know you can take low dose codeine when pregnant as I was prescribed it for pain in my last pregnancy. However it has to be done with gp approval (you can't just buy it over the counter) and the midwife needs to be made aware. As I believe it can inhibit babies breathing when they are born. However, you could take for intermittently and it shouldnt have such a big affect. I stopped taking the codeine a month before baby was born and he was perfectly healthy. Its bit something everyone feels comfortable taking though so talk it through with your gp and midwife.

You could also try bongela? I've never found it very good but you never know, it might help you.

I feel your pain, I've had 3 wisdom teeth come through so far. 2 had to be pulled, 1 is still in there.

Xxx
