After seeing the Dr on Friday, he advised me to do another HPT next wednesday. He said that because my symptoms had dropped off it could be that the fetus had died. :( . He said that if that was the case my HCG level would become undectectable in 5 days.

So working on the priniciple that the hcg would drop steadily over the course of the 5 days I couldn't wait as I was worried and got DH to go out and get a test last night!

Its 3 days since my symptoms stopped. although I do have a few symptoms but not as pronounced as before...

DH came home with 'first response' which I haven't used before. So I did it and it was positive as expected, but the 'pregnant' line was quite alot fainter than the control line.

Which made me panic.

But then I thought, well I've not used this test before so I can't really compare it to anything. Also did the test late at night and pee was very dilute (not sure if thats likely to make a difference or not?)

So I thought back to the test I did a couple of weeks ago, which I took a photo of to email to DH at work!

We decidided to buy that test again and do a first morning test as thats what I did before.

I took a pic again and here are the 2 photos...

(top photo was 2 weeks ago, bottom from today)

They look pretty similar to me and I feel somewhat re-assured by the result.

Of course I will have to do it again in a few days.

But I wondered if anyone knew if HCG levels can remain high even if the 5 days have been and gone?

I don't want to appear overly negative but I am the kind of person who needs alot of information!

Have you had any pain or bleeding? If not then your Dr is talking crap.

My symptoms disappear and reappear every few days, some times I don't feel in the slightest bit pregnant.

As long as there is no pain and bleeding then I don't think you should assume anything.

How far are you? If its over 6 weeks then your Dr can send you for a scan to confirm or reassure you.

Charm X

I'm sorry but your doctor should be struck off! Just because your symptoms have gone doesn't mean the baby could have died! If you've got no pain or bleeding then don't worry. I can't believe your doctor would even say that just because of lack of symptoms! Lots of girls don't have any signs they are pregnant apart from the test they took.

Hi hunny

This must be very stressful for you By the looks of the pictures you should feel reassured - looks like a strong BFP to me.

LBxx

Yep thanks girls!

(sometimes I find Drs are very frank with me because they know I used to be a nurse and they think you can deal with it!)

No I've had no pain, cramps, bleeding or spotting, and I thought they looked like strong positives too.

Oh and I actually feel quite nauseous right now so fingers crossed!

Thanks again. :)

Hi, I hope I can reassure you a bit. I was in exactly the same situation as you at about 8 weeks. My symptoms disappeared completely (my ms was always mild anyhow) my bbs didn't feel sore anymore and I was frantic and managed to convince myself that my baby was no longer viable (even though I had no bleeding which is a classic sign of mc). I even did another pregnancy test which came out fainter so I thought my HCG levels were dropping (turns out the time of day you do the test will affect the strength of the test result since first pee of the am has higher concentration of hormones).

I have now seen the baby (at my 12 week scan) and it is fine, normal heartbeat, correct size etc (although I need to go back for a nuchal test next week as it was a few days early to do the test). I think it is more common that symptoms level of after the 7th or 8th week as the placenta slowly takes over than people realise.

Please try not to worry. More likely than not your symptoms are disappearing as you are nearing the end of the 1st trimester.

Thanks Dinski, that does make me feel better knowing you had the same experience.

I guess I'm not going to be 100% happy until I get a normal scan.

But I am feeling a lot more positive about it.

Thanks! :)

Hi,
I get really angry when doctors treat early pregnancy with such contempt! Your GP sounds like a real case! :x I am quite sure if you call the EPU yourself in the morning or the A&E tonight if you don't want to wait then they would be able to see you and set your mind at rest. You don't need to see the scan just hear the heart beat....
Like the other girls have said, you have had none of the classic MC signs so try not to worry to much, but please do still call an alternate medical professional as your GP need shot for saying such a thing!
Lv and best wishes Yvonne

good luck hun but im sure you will be fine like the pther ladies have said my symptoms come and go day to day,i think it was wrong for your dr to say that as its just going to make you worry.xx
