I keep reading of how the second birth generally doesn't take as long as the first and just wanted to see how many of you have had this experience? I have to say it's made me feel more relaxed! Labour with DD took 8 hours but I wasn't in pain all that time, maybe just the last 3 hours because my labour stopped and needed the drip.

So how long did your 2nd labour last compared to your first? :)

1st labour 16 hours
2nd labour 2 hours
3rd labour 1 hour

I'm having twins this time and there's been a gap of 10 years between children so apparently there's a chance this labour could be longer. Really hoping for my trend to continue and it be nice and short!

My 1st was 6 hours, 2nd was classed as 54 mins although I was having slight niggles for 4 hours.
The 2nd was def easier although I think that's cos I knew how to cope with the pain better and knew the pain wasn't forever.

1st: 24 hours:16 hours established
2nd: 22 hours:3hours established
3rd: emergency c section

Oh my, 2 hours and 1 hour? How did you make it to hospital on time?
I don't think the big gap will make much difference, its bound to be quick. Maybe not 1 hour with twins though!

Feeling happy now :) thanks

i wonder if itll be the same if u were induced first time hmmm

I was induced with dd1 and I was in labour for about 12 hrs

With dd2 she came naturally after a sweep and took about 1 hr 30

Ds was induced 3 days after my waters broke. Took about 4 hours x

From what they class full labour (think over 4cm?) 1st time 2 hours, second time they classed it as 30 minutes with 3 minutes 58 seconds pushing as I arrived at 8cm and got to 10cm very quickly. I'd planned on a home birth so we stayed home as long as possible but no one was available.

I don't know but I think it's more to do with the first baby "making the way" since there has been a baby down the birth canal etc
