The General Register Office for Scotland has released the list of names chosen by parents in Scotland this year. http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files2/s ... table4.pdf

Some of them... um... I'm not sure what to say.

"A". There are two "A"s
"Acer" - like the laptop?
"Eyup" - is this not a greeting in Yorkshire?
"C" - there are 4.
There are 2 "Bing"s
A "Gum"

and many more I haven't found. Goodness.

And finally I'm most amused with the number of different spellings of "Ruaridh" - a lovely name but not for the faint hearted when it comes to spelling.

I LOVE the name Ruaridh - that's how I'd spell it! OH doesn't though :wall: .

I love this list, I spend hours reading it each year.

some truly hideous spellings!!!

No Anjali's.....(she was registered in england). surprising because its a well known hindu name made famous by a film

i adore Ruaridh but as my family is english it would of been a disaster!!

We had Hamish picked out if we had a boy, which i still love.

Isla seems to have become a popular name in England now too!

I must admit it really annoys me when people spell their childs name wrong to be different!

Yeah it bugs me too. I've taught a "Kristoffer". Aaron is the one I see the most spellings of. I've taught Aaron, Aaran, Arin, Arron, Arrin and an Arran.
