Morning Ladies.
Just a question really, I've got my re-scan tomorrow :cheer: :cheer: . but I'm not sure how much water I have to drink. I drank well over a litre before my last scan and the sonographer said try drinking more water before your next scan to try and get the baby to move into a better position to look at it. I told her I drank loads but she said there is'nt much in your bladder as you can imagine I was thinking  because I had to rush to the loo  as soon as I went out of the room.
So How much do you think I should drink and when should I start drinking it ? I also have to take into consideration I've got an appointment at my surgery with the community midwife at 2:45pm regarding my suspected SPD . My scan appointment is 4:15pm at the hospital.

I didn't drink any extra water for my 20 week scan, as when I had my 12 week scan, they told me that I drank too much, and instructed me to just drink normally for the next scan.

For your 20 week scan you wont need to drink any water, i didnt.. everything was clear as day, baby is massively bigger compared to your 12 week scan.. the only reason you drink lots for 12 weeks is to push the baby up as your bladder gets fuller..

dont worry drink what you normally drink you will be fine..

At my 20 week scan I was told to drink 1ltr 1 hour beforehand so the liquid has time to get to your bladder. I have another scan today to look at the face and was told didn't need to drink anything.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday at St James' hospital in Leeds and I was told to drink 1.5 pints of water and hour and a half before the scan.

Needless to say I was absolutely wetting myself.

It should say on your appointment letter what they want you to do.

Isn't that just the worse thing ever when you are having a scan and drank so much you are on the verge of wetting yourself!!

Anyway i have mine on friday and i am not going to drink anything extra just what i normally would as i hardly drank any for my 12 week scan and my pic was as clear as day, i asked the scanning lady and she said when your very slim it's not really that important to drink loads , so i didn't and this time i will be able to enjoy the scan and not worry about wetting myself!! Like at my old scans with my other children :rotfl:

Good luck for tomorrow

the same happened to me, the sonographer said my bladder wasnt very full. Half way through the scan she said that it had started to full up. then she pressed down really hard with the scanner thingy :x

she also said drinking fizzy drinks wasnt a good idea (which i had done) as it can fill up the bowel with gas and reduce image quality

good luck tomorrow :cheer: :cheer:

I was told to start drinking 1 litre of water 1 1/2 hours before scan, and to be finished drinking it by 1 hour before scan for 12 week scan. I was then told that my bladder was "very full!" (Which I already knew myself for fear of wetting myself!) I have been told to drink the same for my 20 week scan.

I had my scan on Monday and drank about 1.5 litres of water and had the last drink about 45 mins before my scan and my bladder was nice and full. They get a clearer picture if you have a full bladder and when I've to go back for my 30 week scan they told me to make sure my bladder is full because they are checking the picture of the bladder x

whoops that should be picture of the placenta on last post x

i did drink alot of drink before i went to my 20weeks scan, she pointed out my bladder lol which was taking up quite alot of space but apart from that she didnt say nowt else.

i was told to drink a pint of water 1 hour before and that was fine x

Hi

It is manditory here to drink water .
You have to drink 4 glasses 2 hours prior to your scan and finsih drinking them an hour and a half before your scan. if your past 32 weeks then you only have to drink 2 glasses.
I wonder why its so different every where .
Katrina
