Scan Query

I have just found out that I am having a trans-vaginal scan on Thursday. Does anyone know what this is? Sounds scarey...

I believe it would be an internal scan, hopefully someone else will be able to help further. I believe it can give a better picture than a stomach scan.

Hi,

as i understand it if your still really early on, an ultrasound scan wont pick anything up, a vaginal (internal) scan is more accurate.
how far gone are you?

I'm only 7+3 and the consultant wanted to do an early scan to make sure everything was OK. I'm just not sure what to expect...

If it's an internal scan it's nothing to be scared of. I'd rather have an internal scan than a smear test or internal exam if that helps as a speculum (however you spell that!?) if more awkward than the thing they do the scan with which is basically just like a moderate sized ahem with a condom on and lube so if you lie back and think of it as something more interesting it's ok if you know what I mean? Plus you don't have to be bursting for a pee to get scanned which is a GOOD THING!

yeah, a trans vaginal scan is fine. Doesn't hurt at all, and just feels like having an internal (when the doc puts his fingers in to check your inner workings). I've had a few of those now and they're absolutely fine and nothing to be worried about. AND you get a great picture on the scan this way!

I'm 7 + 2 and had my first tummy scan today which actually picked something up. Last week they tried that first but it was too early, so did the internal one next. You may end up having the external one when you get there...but either way they're both totally harmless.
