Are they worth it? Any shapes that are good/not good? Any tips about where to get play sand? Our garden is very dull and a little bit unfriendly for toddlers as it has concrete and steps in it but I thought that I could create a little play area for him.

Thanks!

Hiya
I love sandpits :) I know some people tha hate them but they just have them in tghe wrong place. DON'T have it next to your back door unless you want to feel like your house is really a beach.

Brody and Mason have the Turtle one with the lid, which is fine, make sure you keepthe lid on when not in use unless you want to find gifts from the local cats :talkhand:

At my moms they also have a sand and water table, which is great, I prefer to have the 2 seperate ones at home though so they can actually get in the sandpit with bare feet

Hi Urchin,

thanks for that- I was looking at the turtle earlier and thinking about that one :). I never had a sandpit as a kid and I was so jealous of my friends who had one, I did consider using a cheap paddling pool as a sandpit but we live in a terrace in a terraced area and because we don't have a cat our garden seems to be a communal kitty loo :( we need a lid!

How much sand do you need for the turtle- I see they have 15kg bags for a couple of quid in Argos but how many would you need?

Thanks!

i love sandpits

just make sure you cover them over at night otherwise you'll get local cats crapping in them :D

Hiya
I'd buy 3 bags, put 2 in, and keep a 3rd as a spare cos the sand will end up getting chucked all over.
Also, if it's windy, you'll need to stick a brick on the top to stop it blowing off.

Don't forget buckets and spades and stufff...have fun!

i've been thinking about getting one for hassan too - as he plays with sand at nursery, i will get the turtle one, it's the only one with a lid that i could find!!

Thats the one Mason and Brody have at my moms, she got it half price last year. Oh, and it comes with a lid

theres some good ones there, Ill have to see if I have room, maybe when I get my new table which is smaller"

Bah I've been vetoed by my OH who said that we ought to get rid of some old stuff before we get any new. He is right, we have a tiny terraced house and no room to swing anything in so I have started listing some stuff on freecycle to clear some room. I might try asking for a sandpit on freecycle too as it's the kind of thing that does come up.

nah you just sweep it with a dustpan and brush and stick it back in. Just don't have it right outside your back door

Funny I had been thinking about getting Naomi one too - but one with a lid as we have a cat.

I wondered however if she was too small for a sand/water table as a lot of stuff goes into her mouth still and while sand isn't poisonous I don't like the idea of it in her teeth...

Argos have a sand and water table in their current catalogue for €28. I dunno what that is in sterling but it has a lid and is a sturdy looking thing...
