Hi,

does anyone have any great tips about where to get wide shoes for toddlers? I took Mel to Clarks today and they said he was a 5H (in fact off the scale in width!) but they didn't have any 5Hs in the Doodles style (in fact they don't come in H anyway so she suggested a 5 1/5 G- does this sound right?) but they didn't have any of those either and she said you can't order them. Grr. I just wanted some cheap, light shoes of the right width and size!

I just did some internet research and some mums seemed to think that Asda shoes were quite wide as are Ricosta- does anyone have any experience?

Thanks a lot!

what about start rite shoes they go to a G I know what a pain it is matthew has 5G at the moment we have an outlet clarks shop here so managed to get his last pair for £17 the first pair i got him cost me £28 although they did last quite a while

sorry I can't help you. Lydia is currently 6 and a half F. I don't really know whether that's wide or not but she can get hers from Clarks no problem.

good luck.

start-rite do 6 widths and have shops around the Country.
charlie is 4G and we found Next shoes are really wide and easy to put on as Charlie has a high instep so we struggle getting his feet in at all

Thanks for all the comments. I have got him some Ricosta sandals new on ebay which are nice and wide, made from soft leather anyway and have adjustable velcro straps at the ankle and near the toes so that they are very easy to adjust to his feet. They were £20 including P & P which wasn't too bad considering. I can get a finger round the insides which seems like a fair test.. (? anyone who has been a shoe fitter have any tips on how to tell if it fits?) They're kind of more shoe than sandal really as they have a toe guard and are closed at the very bottom of the sides if you see what I mean?

For inside he's still in those fabulous Shoo Shoes because we have bare floorboards and he goes flying in outdoor shoes and I worry about splinters when he's got barefeet (they're Victorian floors and some boards are a bit knackered) so he wears those a bit like slippers at home, at toddler group and round other people's houses and those are wide enough for any toddler and incredibly soft. If you shop around you can get them big enough to fit them until they're about 3 or 4 depending on their shoe size :)

Start-rite do come up wider.

When I worked for Clarks it was standard practise to offer the half-size up if you couldn't get the width.

We used to have to check 11 different things. Buggered if I can remember them all but check for heel slip when walking, where the ankle bone sits (not resting on the shoe), bulges at the side (not wide enough), tripping (too long), creasing on the uppers (too wide) or toe at the end (too short).

Those shoo-shoos sound fab! I'm worried as I estimate Stanley's already about a 4-5 and he's not even standing yet!

Hi

I think its great that you even have different sizes for width ect.
Ours just strictly comes in size 1, 2 , 3 ect and Kiara has chubby feet we have problems finding her a pair.
Hope you find somthing soon hun
