Anyone else done this? I liked Annalise for a girl but all I can see when I look at it now is annal, can just imagine kids being nasty at school although I love the sound of Annalise, anyone know a better way of spelling it or something similar?

ooh i wish i could help, what about choosing something similar like alicia?

If I'm honest I love that name and no matter what name you chose kids will say mean things. Chances are she will shorten it to Anna when she's older anyway.

I really liked Willow for a girl, everyone took the p!ss so much that I don't think I could even consider it now x

I kinda did that to myself - I really liked Ailish for a girl - then one day i said it - and hellish popped into my head straight after - said it a few more times afterwards but it just didnt do it for me anymore.

A quick google said an alternative spelling is annelies - but couldnt you kinda use any thing that looks like it might be pronounced similiar

Annelise
Annilise
Annylise?

Origin of name says its a combination of Anna and Lisa - what about putting in a hyphen.

Anna-Lisa
Anne - Elise
Anna- Lize

Dunno if any of that is any use - just kinda rolling the sound round in my head.

xxx

I knew a girl called Annalise/Annelise (can't remember how she spelt it) and to be honest never made that connection! However met her at 16/17 so maybe we were all too old to take the mick, or look that deep into it lol. Maybe school age would be different, but sound-wise I don't think it's a problem. If you spell it Annelise she'll def be fine :) x

oh I love Annalise too, what about Amalie, very similar as this is one of my fave names at the mo. xxx

I love it I think if anything they will shorten it to Annie or Ann xx

Thanks ladies! Some great ideas there. We have a few other names sounding a but similar just couldn't think of other ways to spell it as I'd always be thinking 'annal' in my own head!

Hmmm, i'd never heard of that name before...

I do think the anal is a bit unfortunate but kids won't be talking about anal sex until they are in their teens so i dunno if it's something that you have to worry about with other kids really.

What about Emmalise? I actually think that sounds a lot nicer actually.

Just replacing the Anna with a similar sounding alternative name :)
