Hello all,

Could anyone tell me am on the wrong forum as I’m a guy? or is this open to both?

Kind regards..

I think so! If you are TTC then you are welcome here as far as I'm concerned. I think there are other men on here.

Thank you Sunflower,

Yes me & my other half are going to start trying for a baby.. bit scary for myself but think this will go away!

Anyways I thought I would join a forum to get advice and see how things go and how the rest of you are going about this big step, basically I want to get myself in the best condition for being very fertile & getting my sperm in its best peak condition to make this happen!

As with most of us guys we are not as intune with our bodies as you ladies but wondering if any of you can recommend some good steps or supplements for me to take to get my sperm in its best fertile quality?

Pregnacare do a "him and her" conception pack of vitamins and so I'm sure they do just a "him" version (I just recommended them to someone else in another thread but I don't have any affiliation with them! Me and my partner have just found them to be really good!)

I think the male ones are called Wellman Conception.

Good luck!

Thank you Sylva,

I have heared Of them before and they are supposed to boost the amount of ejaculate and Sperm production! There is another product I was looking at.... can’t remember the name now! Typical.

Hear all the normal about hot baths, tight pants etc so guess my long soaks are out now

I would give up alcohol (it's really bad for sperm and sperm take 3 months to be made so a night out on the town could affect you for quite a while). Also look into guidelines for caffeine intake. I think you are looking at about one cup of coffee a day.

Generally, don't go exercise mad but the fitter you are the better. Make sure you are within your BMI range. Stay hydrated. Don't eat lots of junk food, eat enough fresh fruit and veg, cut down on processed stuff, eat enough red meat. Get good sleep and keep stress low if possible.

And general advice, relax and don't get stressed out about TTC. It takes on average 6 months which means for some couples a year is perfectly normal. Don't expect it to happen immediately (that's a media myth) otherwise you can get into a total state.

Make sure your OH is on folic acid asap - ideally 3 months before starting but definitely right away.

This is a great forum with lots of support.

Exercise, vitamins, healthy diet. Once we my hubby started these we concived, also men assume folic acid is for women but I made him start taking it, helps sperm loads.

Thank you Sunflower,

I have not had a msssive response to my posts but as I said I can guess a lot of women are not too keen to discuss all this with a man which is understandable!

Thanks for your good tips.. I’m not a big drinker anymore to be fair & don’t smoke plus not over weight so all good so far.

Just really want to do my part in making sure I’m making lots of really good quality Sperm to stand the best chance of making a pregnancy.. think the diet part will be the most tricky that’s why I’m thinking of taking some supplements to improve my amount & quality of Sperm I produce.

You are right though I guess you can become stressed if things are not happening! We do not have any children yet so I’m new to all this planing best times and all but going to give it my all Just little lost where to start as I bet most men are but never admit it..

Hi Peanut butter,

Folic acid for men too.. really? Well I never knew that.. if it’s good for Sperm then yep I will take that too! So what are the best supplements I can take to get it at is best? Or is a multi one best than taking lots of different ones?

I really like Solgar for a vitamin company. They don't put any muck into their supplements but they are a little more expensive because of that.

Welcome sperm maker. I cant really think anything else to add that the girls havent already said. Keeping relaxed and trying to keep the fun in ttc is important as month after month can feel a bit like a chore if you let it! Happy :bd:

Great any links to the best ones for my needs please Sunflower? Also very surprised it takes Three months for Sperm to be made.. I never knew that typical bloke I guess :)

I guess trying every day when my other half is ovulating is also pointless due to the Sperm production time! So guessing maybe every other day?

Hi Melly,

Yes I can imagine when trying all the time can take the fun out of it lol

It kind off already feels like I’m turning myself into a Baby machine thinking of all the supplements to take to get me producing large amounts of Sperm but I guess everyone goes through this stage at first :)

Thank you & you are all being very helpful

Every other day is the recommended, your partner is very lucky to have a man so interested who is happy to discuss all of this as some women find it very lonely because their partners don’t like to talk about it. Best of luck on your journey!

Thank you Sugary iris,

I did think every other as things need time to replace!

Yes I know what you mean I think it becomes a bit of a Taboo with some guys talking about Baby making, Sperm production etc etc even with their mates.. guess that why I have come on here as women seem more willing to chat about it and free with advise :)

I really don’t mind discussing it all from a mans point of view & hope it helps you all as well as helping me :)

Same as most guys I’m not the most up to speed when it comes to Baby making..

I really don't know about supplements. The approach that we are taking is good nutrition as it's less stress on the body - my husband is having cranberry juice which is good for sperm production and cleans the blood...just a small glass a day is fine. He's having brocolli for motility, garlic for motility, apples for sperm production, eggs for selenium, red meat for testosterone production. He has fish regularly as there are certain minerals and omegas you need. We eat little processed food and eat low starch, high veg/pulses diet. He does take zinc tablets. He doesn't have fizzy drinks either and is fairly low sugar. Dark chocolate is good for motility and production too. He's also non dairy and suggests cutting down on dairy at least a little.

I don't really understand the whole sperm production thing but was told by a fertility doctor that every other day is optimal as that way you replenish properly. Definitely stay hydrated.

It's also a good idea to 'clear the pipes' as it were 3-5 before TTC.

Here is an article on sperm production.

Here here. I totally agree with this!

Thanks :)

More than happy to discuss.. & thank you Girls for all your help so far :)

Thank you so much for your replies Sunflower, you sure seem to know your stuff.

I have read somewhere it is a good idea to keep your sperm fresh so this is also a good thing to know about the 3-5 days before working on the job in hand..

I will also be using the diet your other half is Sunflower as it sounds key in the amount and quality of Sperm..

Wow this is all a lot more complicated than I thought :)

Seems Sperm is one of life’s mysteries, I will never look at it the same lol

That kind of life will improve your health anyway. Mostly important thing is try to relax and don't get stressed about it. Have fun and don't have any expectations (if possible).
