I've asked about this in tri 2 before but I figured the tri 3 girls will probably be able to help me more on this!

Saw my midwife todayy and she told me the anti d injections are painful and not very nice :( I'm a bit freaked out now as I'm not overly keen on needles so I just wondered what other people's experience of the jabs were? Are they really awful????

Please reassure me! :D

Thanks girls,

Claire xxx

 Hehehee had to be you thats needed all the extra injections and your terrified of needles!

They do hurt more they will either do it in your leg or your arm BUT its not going to be anymore painful than having your Pip  just think happy thoughts and expect lots of pain because then it wont hurt as much as you imagined it would! Cant imagine it being any worse than the one you get for Tuberculosis

I've had three so far, two as routine and one due to bleeding. All three were in my bum (I got to choose what cheek  ) They are a bit sore but only for a matter of seconds and I had o problems sitting down afterwards- thank god! They really aren't any worse than having a blood test, in fact it's all over so quickly it's probably better than having blood taken.

Trust me when I say this, anti-d injections only sting for a minute and it doesn't even hurt afterwards. I've had 3 so far and I've to get another 2.

Unlike Alex I got mine in the arm... thank god!

eeek i have my 1st one next wednesday so i will let you know how it goes!

Had one on Tuesday, no problem. The midwife here explained that they tend to do them in the arm because they're better absorbed. Didn't hurt at all, so don't worry. Your midwife was unkind and inaccurate when she said it really hurt, believe me it doesn't. Just look the other way and relax - if you tense up it will be uncomfortable.

Lucky i've managed to get out of having this one as Calum come early! :cheer:
Good Luck though.

Thanks girlies

I was a bit surprised she said that to me too! Especially as I'd said like a minute beforehand that I was needlephobic. Other than that I really liked her though! Everything is fine with baby :) She has her head down (like last time - hopefully she will stay this way in the weeks to come!) and her heatbeat was 149bpm :) Think that's good anyway, she said it was normal. I'm also measuring perfect for my dates and my blood pressure is brilliant :cheer: So it was an otherwise sucessful appointment!

i know people have replied already but i just wanted to say that i had the same fears before my anti-d injection. i had it in my arm. i didn't even feel the needle go in at all. it stung for a matter of seconds as she injected the stuff in and it stung a few seconds after then it was fine. no where near as bad as i was expecting it to be. having blood taken hurt a lot more for me. i'm a total whimp when it comes to needles and pain. i think i have to have it again after baby is born i'm not sure but i wouldn't be worried if i had to have it again. it was fine honestly.

Also had it in my arm. Didnt hurt really, just a slight sting like any other injection and didnt last long either. Blood test hurt more.

Had them all in my bum (well, just above my bum). Didn't hurt any more than any other injection and far less uncomfortable than a blood test. I had the choice of arm or bum and went for bum as I was told it hurt less!

had mine in my arm, stung for a second and didnt hurt after - was fine, dont worry
