Hi ladies, i was looking for abit of advice, before i got my bfp i was running between 3-6miles ever other day. Due to my mc last year I decided to stop till i was 12 weeks, well hopefully all being well 12weeks is around the corner and I was hoping to return to exercise, i know I wont be able to do the milage i was doing before but can anyone advise whats best to start with again? With having an 8 week gap is it best to start from scratch? Your advice would be grately appriciated x x

I've never tried running, so I'm not sure what you can/cant do while pg.

But i'm feeling more energetic this week, I also want to get back to my fitness routine, been doing some research the last couple of days as to what I can do. So far I can do moderate on the exercise bike, very light weights and ball exercises.

I definately dont want to be another over weight mummy to be like last time!! The probs it causes are unbelievable.

Its amazing that abit of energy can make things seem so much better :)
I would like to stay fit and healthy throughout my pregnancy not to just help with birth ect but because its my time doing something I enjoy.
If Its best for me not to continue running until after birth then im ok with that aslong as I can do some sort of exercise to keep my fitness levels up x x

Without a doubt there will be exercises you can do. Do you have a gym ball? They're good for stomach exercises ect.

I'm the same, having been through it before (labour) I want my body in the best condition this time to help me through. Last time I put on about 4 stone during pregnancy, I was a size 8 before I fell pregnant and I remember 2 days after we got home from hospital, I had literally no trousers to wear had to wear jammie bottoms to go to asda with OH I tried on a cheap pair of denims and a size 22 wouldn't fit, I was bawling my eyes out like a loony in the middle of asda, OH telling me it didn't matter ect. I managed to lose the weight a couple of years later but there's No way I'm doing that that again. It actually terrifies me at the thought.

Yeah Ive got an exercise ball but I thought you were meant to stay away from any stomach exercises. Ive got a gym membership that I can use but I dont feel comfortable speaking to any of the personal trainers as I havent had the best of chats with them (had abit of a run in as I knew what I needed to do for my half marathon training and they tried to change it half way through, grrrr) Im a member of a runners forum so I think I might post on there about running.
I think exercise makes you feel better about yourself too, so when we are feeling frumpy over the next 6 months or so, we can make ourselves feel better x x

I was doing Jogging until I was about 13 weeks, but stopped after I started bleeding. ( nothing serious or to do with running, just an annoyed cervix) It took them four weeks to tell me that though and in that time I didn't do anything excercise wise as i was too worried to think about anything else. Anyway tried to go back after but it was uncomfortable, plus I'm rather clumsy so was worried a bit that I would trip up ( which I did in a car park.. oops). I believe swimming is suppose to be the best thing to do when pregnant, as its easy on the joints and stuff and overall a great work out. To be honest I haven't done anything, did try a few things but decided I would just take it easy and get back into once the baby is born. i have been sorting out the garden and stuff and walking a few miles so I reckon that is just enough for now.

I think the one exercise you are definitely told to avoid is any kind of sit up/stomach crunch!! They also say avoid anything where you're lying on your back. Just start off gently...the important thing is to not get overheated and to stick with what you already know... for example if you've never done weights before, don't bother introducing them now! xx

Thanks for all your advice ladies, i am just going to take it slow and i need to remind myself that Im not going to be able to do what i was able to before. Think its possibly going to be walking rather than jogging/running but we will see x x

I used to run 7 miles 4 times a week while training for a half marathon 2 and a half years ago!

Unlucky for me I can't even hoover without being in pain for the next 2 days with severe leg ache and nerve pain so I haven't exercised at all during this pregnancy. I can't wait to get back to running again once my boy is born. Do you know how long I have to wait before starting exercising again after the birth? x

I think if you have a natural birth, you can start exercising, increasing gradually when you feel ready hun x x

Excellent!! :)

Watching the marathon is making me very very jealous! lol Not that I could ever do the full one, the half one nearly killed me! lol x

I would love to do a full one, ive always said i would do the VLM atleast once, its just getting in, unless you pledge to a charity that you will raise over £2000 its really hard! But I will do it!
Ive just been for a nice long walk with Adam and wanted to blow raspberries at all the runners lol, childish I know but this weather just makes you want to go for a run x x

My Step-Dad's Nephew is running it today (may have finished already!) I haven't been to watch because I don't drive and my OH is plastering baby's room today (much more important lol). My best friend lives on the main road that they run trough in Greenwich and gets stuck indoors every year until everybody has run past!! It's quite funny watching it from her balcony and seeing banana man and rupert the bear run past! lol x

Can imagine the atmosphere to be amazing running or spectating. Wonder how long its going to take that snail this year??
Well ive enjoyed my 3 mile walk, could of carried on but didnt want to push it too much been as though im only just getting back into doing anything :) x x

How you been getting on with the exercise this week? I've still been doing the gym when I don't feel too sick. Main thing is to keep your heart rate below 140 to avoid over heating but if your used to exercise you will be fine. Something my trainer said to me which I keep in my mind is when you raise your heat rate you raise the babys too and they have a much higher resting rate than we do and the hotter we are the hotter they are. He also said for every 10 mins rest for 2-5 mins. This was important for me as I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie and like to feel the burn, made me remember it's not just me I'm pushing! So I've been good last few weeks and not pushed myself, so hard tho, I feel like those girls in the gym who's makeup stays perfect and they don't sweat!
