Luca had his 8 week check yesterday and I mentioned to our GP that he frequently makes these noises like he's struggling to breathe and I have to blow in his face to get him to catch his breath. He asked is it during a feed and I said it's random throughout the day. He then said it sounded like reflux. I haven't done any research about reflux but I will do. From seeing ladies post about it on here though, I thought it involves being sick. Luca's not a sicky baby at all. This little problem doesn't upset him but I just worry if god forbid I didn't hear him during the night.

GP says he will grow out of it. Anyone else had a similar experience with their babies? I've spoken to friends and they haven't a clue xx

It could be silent reflux, the signs of reflux are usually arching their back during or after a feed. Lily wasn't very sicky just very upset about it. If you worried about night times could you get a sensor mat for under his mattress hun? Xxx

Oh god, you just reminded me that someone bought me one and I haven't even used it. Thank you hun, I will be digging that out now xx

Jackson had silent reflux from like 4 weeks old. He over fed and would scream the place down - he also arched back when feeding etc... we were prescribed gaviscon but there was a manufacturing problem so i ended up having to cut his feeds and stuff..

There might be other symptoms, or some babies might get it differently but I know Jackson was in alot of pain with it and he would over eat, and I couldnt put him down. Once he turned like 7 weeks he settled down.

I just don't think that's what it is. Hmm, may have to get a 2nd opinion! Thanks for the reply anyway hun xx

I thought Id post because unless he has the pain and other symptoms I dont think its that - unless some babies dont get pain etc with it? A second opinion would be best I think if your not sure.

My daughter seems to be kind of the same. During the day not always while feeding she will cough 2/3 time and sometimes wretch. After that she will stop breathing/hold her breath to the point i have to blow on her. Its so scary! I read a story that a newborn shouldnt cough its a sign of a heart problem. Iv mentioned it to the mw, hv and my sons specialist and they all assured me it sounds like silent reflux as she isnt actually bringing anything up xx

I'd get a second opinion. Reflux usually involves being sick and pain, silent reflux the same without the sickness, as far as I'm aware. My son had reflux (loads of throwing up and screaming in pain), but he also used to breath-hold, but only a few times in his first few months and I would blow on his face to get him to take a breath. I would say he's grown out of it, but sometimes even now when he's crying he'll forget to breathe!
