I have just started a new job and they don't know I am pregnant. I have my 12 week scan next monday. Where do I stand legally? When do I have to tell them? I am really worried about a bad reaction from them!

Is it 22 weeks you have to tell them? I know it's 20 something.
I'd just say you have an appointment for something else x

Its 25 weeks you have to tell them but it may be best to tell them sooner if your needing time off for appointments etc.

Also I if you've only just started working for them are you aware you'll only be entilted to maternity allowance and not smp? Not sure when you have to apply for that x

Using tapatalk so excuse the typos!

I think you have to tell them 15 weeks before you want to start maternity leave!

Use this link (go to "Get personalised guidance on maternity rights) and if you enter a few details - IE your salary and when you want maternity leave to start it should tell you what date you have to advise work by!

I told my work after 12 week scan but I've been here years, my official date of having to let them know is end of July!

Oh I'm not working on monday anyway. I know that legally they can't treat me any different to someone who isn't pregnant - but worried they will find an excuse to get rid of me!

It would have to be a pretty watertight reason to get rid of you because you could have their ass in a tribunal for that! x

They can't treat you any different when pregnant... But they have to know your pregnant in order for them to do that...! So I think it's best to tell them ASAP, as long as your comfortable.
I know with my work, doctors appts etc are to be made in your own time, but midwife etc are just whenever so they let you go.
Also it's best to get a risk assesment done ASAP aswell, make sure you are protected at work.x

They cannot treat you any different whilst pregnant. Infact they cannot use anything pregnancy related to letting you go. I work for the NHS and we have to tell them 15 weeks before EDD. Or 10 weeks before ML starts whichever is sooner. However - as it was my collegues who gave me my results it all went out the window! Ha!
