Tom's had a cold for 10 days now and 3 days ago started with a thick cough. I took him to the doctor this afternoon as he got a temperature yesterday but she said he just had a cold.
This evening his temperature was 38.4 so I gave him a tepid bath and some calpol but it shot up to 39.9

I've spoken to the NHS Direct and they've said to monitor him and if he shows any signs of twitching/being limp/unresponsive I should dial 999 as they're early warning signs of a convulsion.

I am SO worried about my little boy.

It's so strange though as he's been full of beans today, in really high spirits and even when his temp shot up he was sitting with his Daddy reading a book and pointing and smiling.

I feel sick with worry though. :(

hey huny just seen this.....  already given advice on the phone - ring if u need any help hunny xxx

oh no, i hope his temp has gone down and he's feeling better. can u call the out of hours doc to come and check on him? hope hes ok

   Ive had the same thing with Jake, hes got a cold/chest bug. His temp shot up to 39 this evening. I phoned NHS Direct and they said its his body fighting the bug. It is terrifying tho isnt it

Temp down to 37.4 thank God.
I'm amazed it's still up though after the Nurofen and the Calpol. I've never known him to have a temperature that high before...SO scary.
Natalie...I feel for you. I have felt sick all evening with anxiety. So worried about the little chap.
Let's hope they're both better in the morning.
Trixi...we don't have an out of hours GP. Well, we sort of do but they're based in the hospital and they're rubbish so I think if he's that ill, I might as well take him to A&E. Hopefully we'll avoid that now his temp is down. Just hope it stays down.

Thank you all so much for your replies.

Probably too late to answer. Just giving you these    And, if you find it useful, I was told when I baby has a teprature (high) you have to cool him down as much as you can, like instead of dressing him up - just leave him in a baby vest. Never tried it myself though...

Thank you so much Carina. I've got him in a vest and a 0.5tog Growbag and his room is quite cool. Such a worry.

Ben had a chest infection a couple of days before christmas his temperature went between 37.5-39.8 for days, the calpol on its own didn't seem to bring the temp down but ibruprofen did seem to bring it down. It was so horrible, we were scared for days but it did go back to normal eventually got it did take a few days to get back to a normal 36.5!

I'm glad his temp has come down now!! Its so hard when there is nothing you can for them :( there is alot going around at the moment, its that time of the year!! I hope he's up and about soon!!

i have to say luke responds much better to ibuprofen than he does calpol especially when he has a high temp.

hope tom is better x x

Funny you say that when I saw the HV last week she said that Calpol takes longer to work and when it does its not as strong so its best to be used for minor things and use ibuprofen for the more major things.

Only just seen this.
So sorry LO has been poorly. Must have been so scary for you.
Glad he's feeling better now

Thanks all for lovely posts. Interesting about the Nurofen.
His temperature is back to normal today thank God. Last night was so scary. His little face was scarlet. Even the whites of his eyes were pink. He was SOOOOoo hot.
He is full of beans today and his nose seems to have dried up a bit so hopefully he is on the mend.
Thanks so much girls for your messages.

Really, really glad to hear his temp's dropped Lucy
Isaac's went down then up again, I do believe it is them fighting it, and I do know its very scary, I really hope its continued to go down now and he's all better, very very BIG hugs!!

Hey Lucy, I've just read your thread: God, I can't imagine how it was to go through all of it! Anyway, I am glad that it is all gone now and that Tom is better.
I have a cold and I am really worried that my little one will get it from me... Fingers crossed!
