What is the best thing you can do with your baby so he or she gets really good back support and can sit unaided?

poppys 7 months and is now being referred to physio because she can only sit up for 3-5 seconds max and then falls over and that only started a few days ago.
Im sitting with her sat up with toys and just holding her by her shoulders with my fingertips so she has to control her back. putting her in the bumbo and putting her on tummy time for about 2 minutes x3 times a day cus she hates doing it, and just grizzles staright away. she also will sit with pillow supporting her back with toys infrnt of her, but they have to be really supportive or she falls fowards, sidewards, frontways etc lol

im realy scared because she isnt sitting up yet shell ultimatly be late with everything, crawling, walking, talking etc? as thats whats happened with my son. cause he didnt sit unaided untill 13th months.

Although tbh my son felt a very floppy baby and sice born never felt very 'together', poppy doesnt and has got all her milestones spot on so far with rolling over, grasping her hands, playing with feet etc.

the physio said she can catch up but it that quite commen or not?
& I just wanna know what really good things help with getting back support?

Oscar was a bit of a late sittter only started around 6.5 months. He's now 7.5 months and sitting fine. He literally went from sitting right fwd chin on knees and falling to the side to sitting up fine the next day, was so quick.

I was putting him on the bed so he could flop around all he wanted and I think this helped alot because it got his confidence up more. Now he sits fine with no assistance and has a really strong back.

She'll be fine hun, all baby's develop differently.

xxxx

I left Lizzie for the first time sitting up and playing today - normally I would have to sit behind her cos she always fell over lol! And she's 8 months tomorrow :)
I always give her a really interesting toy in front of her so she learns to lean forward to begin with.

have you tried lying her on her tummy on your chest so she can look at you thats how i got amelia to like tummy time x

One of my boys doesn't sit up and has no interest in doing so he would rather lie flat and roll all over place and he's 8 months? Can I ask who suggested your wee one get referred?

My health visitor and my sOn sees physio for his walking n they said they should see her x

That silly HV, nothing wrong with her development at all - Devon can't sit unaided at all not even for a second or two. I'm getting a bad back fro sitting on his mat with him all day , he sits between my legs and I hold him up. He will flop right onto his face bent double if I let go!

All mine were floppys and usually got alot better by 8 months ish, I have profesional photos of them at 8 months, where I am hiding behind them in the pics holding them up!!

Don't worry plenty of time, mine sat at about 8 months plus and then crawled at 10!! seems too close

I think the majority of HV's are a complete waste of time. I mean they just incite panic, I didn't think twice about the wee man not sitting up as he's more interested in other things. Where as now I'm think oh dear maybe I should be doing more things to encourage it :eh:

Didn't say that even though Oscar can sit fine now, he still will suddenly flop over. I have to sit cushions around him on the floor and I wouldn't leave him sitting unsupervised.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your daughter that warrants getting you stressed over the situation at all.

Thankyou everyone that's really helped :) tbh I don't think there's as much to worry abOut as they made out as now she will sit for about 30 secs and that's cone on in 2 days. The only other reason there seeing her is because she takes forever to smIle or laugh. The only way to make her laugh in seconds is to tickle her or throw her in the air. She isn't interested at all with stupid faces or toys u can literLly be sat that for half an hour making noises and squeaking Toys in her face an youll get 1 smile, if ur lucky! Lol she's a proper grump

As long as she is smiling and laughing I wouldn't worry hun. Oscar can be hard to make laugh sometimes, he goes through very serious phases, but it never worries me at all. Think they get bored of the same things over and over same as we would do. And also they get used to things so they come to expect it and it's not as funny anymore.

I heard that bumbos arent all that great for helping them learn to sit by themselves, as they Oversupport the back, so the baby never builds up its own muscles to do it.

Kierons only just sitting up for 5 mins max and he's nearly 7 months. Like jj I usually sit behind him and move his legs till he gets his balance-after about a week or so I saw a massive improvement in his ability to sit unaided. He's now spending more time on the floor just rolling and shuffling about than in his jumperoo and chair xx

My lil man is only just sitting and I still couldn't trust him on the floor ( he is 8 1/2 months)

I found his travel cot the best practise for him as it has netted sides and a mattress so he can't hurt himself :)

I wouldn't worry at all hun xx
