Im on maternity allowance at the moment so i cant get the maternity grant but does anyone know if i will be able to get it after he is born?? Ill be a single parent but it says you have to be recieving a higher rate of child tax credit or something and i dont know if i will?? because i was gonna send of an appeal letter today but didnt want to do that if i will definatily get it after he is born

You receive ahigher rate of child tax credit if you earn £20 000 or less. You can claim from 11 weeks before the baby is due until 3 months after baby is born. You get a form called SR100 from the job centre.

I don't think the fact you are currently on maternity leave should matter - you should be able do to apply now I would have thought. Check with the job centre.

go to entitledto.com (i think) and enter your details but put baby was born yesterday and it will tell u how much tax credits you will get, i think the basic rate is like 500 (maybe more when baby is under 1) a year so if you get over that then it looks promising to get the grant.

Have tried to claim the grant already but i cant as im recieving maternity allowance but it says you can get it if you recieve a higher rate of child tax credit. and i know some ppl couldnt get it before the baby was born but could get it after.

thanks i will try that website! :D

why they say u cant have it coz u get MA???? :? i get MA and just got the grant. do u have any of the criteria needed to get it?

i tried to get it twice. maybe its cos i get maternity allowance but dont get any child benefit or anything yet?? maybe i would get it after he is born then??

it shudnt matter if u get MA thats irrelevant to the claim, you just need to have one of the following..

Income Support
Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
Pension Credit
Child Tax Credit at a higher rate than family element or
Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award

what did the entitled to website say u will get for tax credits?

That would probably explain it then. Have you called the benefits people and spoken to them about future entitlements? Someone might be able to see if you could claim anything in the future.

is that 497 a month or a year???

if its a month then yes you will defo get it.
