Now, I'm getting ahead of myself because I've not been told we need ivf, but all signs are pointing that way.

From what I have seen, the "guidelines" to ivf on the nhs are:

2 years trying and you get 3 cycles of ivf. However, my local council seems to say they give it after 3 years and only offer 1 cycle!! How is this possible?

Does this mean I have to wait another year and a half ( we are at 1 1/2 years now) and only get one chance??

Had anyone else experienced this? My optimism is fading. :(

Don't have an answer I'm afraid as I'm not at this stage but I hope you don't have to wait that long.

I know all hospitals are different and mine has a 2 year waiting list for IVF but again I don't know if that means 2 years TTC or 2 years literally on a list x

Hi,
I know all areas are different our criteria is:
To have been TTC for 12 months
Not have any children from previous relationships
Bmi for female less than 25
You get 2 attempts at IVF on the nhs
Once you have a successful treatment you have to pay for any follow up treatments
I first saw my dr to start the investigations in April 2012 she referred us to the infertility clinic which only took about a month then from initially being seen by the clinic it took about 12 months for the tests, consent forms appointments and investigations before we started the IVF ICSI.
Hope this gives you a better idea x
Hope this helps x

It's all down to reasons for the fertility problems and the god damn postcode lottery too... The nhs wouldn't even touch us!! So having to pursue privately

thank you guys. out of interest, does anyone know if you're stuck in your counsel's area or if you can choose to travel somewhere that offers more?

it goes by your home postcode and what PCT you fall under.

Rules for mine were 2 years TTC unless a diagnosis of reason for not being able to get pregnant and 3 IUI's or 1 IVF were the entitlement

Unfortunately it's the postcode lottery again which is so unfair.
My pct guidelines are 3 years ttc and that's 3 years from a miscarriage too not from the start of ttc.
I'm currently trying to fight this decision and am waiting for my doctor to call with an update after contacting my local pct on my behalf.
It's been 2 years 3 months so far but I had a miscarriage 10 months again.
