Ques - Cervix Dilated?

Hi All,

I have seen many of you talk about how much cervix has got dilated..How do we determine that? I mean can we know how much cervix is dilated at home..


Also, in order to be in labour how much cervix dilation they expect before you go to the hospital

They normally send you home if your less than 3cm's. They check by putting their fingers up you, sorry tmi and it depends on how many fingers they can insert! If I'm wrong someone pls correct me but I think that's right!

i was told that they measure using fingers into the cervix depending what goes in as to how far you are and your not in active labour untill your 4cm hence why they send you home

oh my god, does that not really hurt when they check!?!?! if they put 4 fingers up there, thats basically a fist size, do they actually put their like whole arm up there?!??! i know childbirth is going to be a hell of a lot wider than that but surely??

Wen I was checked with my first two if they could fit two the whole hand went up and I'm not joking ouch!!!! Yes it hurts and yes they do lol!!! Still baffles me how they measure for ten

I have never really thought it hurt that much but getting my sweep the other day bloody did got knows what she was doing up there but it wasnt the same as checking how dilated you are thats for sure.

I hated internals, they don't so much hurt just so uncomfortable! X

I didn't find it painful, just uncomfortable - never gonna be nice having someone stick their hand up there!!! They don't like to do too many internals, so don't worry. Only do it when they really have to. My hospital will send you up to delivery suite at 3-4cms. I was in hospital for like 15 hours until I got to that, then another 16 hour in delivery and nothing changed in 16 hours!! They tried all sorts but it wasn't happening!

Haha, without long nails too!! Are there many male midwives about? Can you imagine???? Eek :S

My consultant with bella was a nail biter I could tell lol!! That was an uncomfortable sweep lol!! X
