Last time I gave birth in another country and Brandon was born at a reasonable time but... What happens if the baby is born in the middle of the night? How long is my OH allowed to stay there, will he have to leave right after the birth?

My 2nd son was born at 2am. Hubby was allowed to stay till I got showered and moved to the baby ward. He left about 4.30am. Wouldve liked a bit longer.. Considering I was the only one in the ward at the time!

I had k just before 1am and fob stayed til about 4.30 as well! I had to get stitched up, then we were in recovery for ages and he stayed for a while whilst I was on te ward! I think it depends on the hospital tbh and the staf that were on, I know a lot of them were like well as long as you're not being any bother you're ok! I was moved into a private room with E and they really weren't fussed about times!

As long as youre on the labour ward your OH can stay. If you get moved to postnatal ward then visiting hours apply. Im looking forward to seeing them try and drag my OH away from his son

I asked my MW at the antenatal class and she said that even though visiting hours are like 3.30-4.30pm and 6.30-8.30pm (something like that) OH's are allowed in whenever they like as long as it's reasonable. She gave an example of 8am-8pm etc.

She explained that by the time all the paperwork and checks have been done before moving you over to the postnatal ward that it's normally a good few hours after baby is born and that most OH's want a shower and something to eat anyway. I'm hoping we go in in the middle of the night - I give birth about 6-7am and then OH can stay with me all day :D

I had Lacey at 6.00pm but had problems afterwards so OH stayed with me until about 2am then came back the next morning. I hated him leaving :( This time if all goes well i'm gonna try to come home afew hours after giving birth!

usually depends on the hospital at ours partners can stay over night on first night ie if you give birth thru night this is quiet a new thing there tho

When I had my little Angel, she appeared at 2 am in the morning and they let my OH stay with me as long as he wanted. After that he could visit anytime he wanted within reason ( 8am - 8pm)

Why don't you phone the hospital and ask them? I'm sure they'll be helpful.

the hospital I had my early antenatal care at (before we moved house) had double beds so OH could just stay in with you :yay: how good is that!!

wow, that's awesome, I'm not looking forward to OH being told to go home! I think over here they're allowed to stay on the first night but once you're on the postnatal ward then they're only allowed from 8am - 10pm. The other visitor hours are really limited though, 3-5 then 7-9 and that's it!

Our hospital has a 6 hour discharge policy if youve not had any complications. If thats the case your OH is allowed with you the whole time. Im keeping my fingers crossed that Ill be home very quicky, I hate hospitals!

as i have understood it at my birth centre Oh is aloud to stay 1 night and its private rooms with double beds, first time mums are aloud to stay 2 nights if they want to.

^^ that sounds fab!! :yay: wish there was a birth centre near us
