Hi all,

This is not intended to incite a debate on vaccinations.

Following this morning's BBC news report I merely want to know if anyone has paid privately for a vaccine against meningitis B for their little ones and if so, where/which clinic/service did you use?

Thanks,

Lou x

I was going to ask the same. Im in scotland if anyone from hrre knows. Thanks x

I've just been looking into this and have it booked this month. It's bloody expensive but from what ive read on the men b website the catch up will only be babies under 4 months.

I have debated waiting to see about nhs but not confident we would get it.

Yes I was looking into booking for my 10 mo old asap; from what I understand there would be two initial doses two months apart and then a third later on? Is that the same for your LO? How much did you find it for? My local Spire hospital charges £125 a dose but I can't find any comparatives locally (Westcountry) at the moment so just interested in what the variances in cost may be.......

Yes same for my 15 month old. Two doses costing 125 2 months apart and a third booster a year later (they said we can't pre pay as the price may rise)

I did find one other place but that was 150 per dose. I've read the cost is £75 per dose so the rest is their add on's. It appears there are only a few places that do it too. I wonder what age range the catch up will cover??

I'm based in hampshire too :)

How they can fund some things like's josie's body parts but can't fund this is beyond me!
I'm sure my OH would pay for this and I would most definitely consider this one before my LB starting school/nursery. But knowing there's people who can't justify who'd kill for this vaccine... It baffles me.. Seriously they should sack every single person who approved boob jobs and other non life saving treatments that are just equally as wasteful on the NHS for no valid reason then they should get the right people together and re-evaluate what should be funded and what shouldn't!

The U.S (medical insurances) aren't covering the cost either, I wonder if that has made a difference in the NHS' decision to not do a catch up.

But from looking at the NHS website and it's information about it.. Wouldn't any local (nhs) GP not stock it too? They take payments for other things so it wouldn't surprise me because it is added to the program but just catching up vaccines are charged at private cost?

Either way if it wouldn't be my local GP making them available I would be inclined to ask my GP what he thinks is a reputable source of where to then get it.

HI ladies, just wanted to update and say we (well, LO! almost eleven months old) had the jab this week (first dose) and it was fine; was actually the least traumatic of all the jabs he's had thus far it seemed! It was administered by a pharmacist and it was over in about a second and aside from the initial 'shock tears', no real pained reaction so I am assuming it wasn't a 'stinger'! He also suffered no side effects and the injection site was almost invisible by the next day. Appreciate this won't be the same for all but just thought I'd pitch in with our experience having gone ahead.

Great news that today the vaccine deal has now been agreed from 8 weeks old to be rolled out in Sept but this won't be backdated, so our LOs would still need to go private anyway (Well, that's the current situ anyway - all may change!).

Anyway, good luck to all looking to get it done xxxxx

We had ours done a couple of weeks ago and no reaction but the nurse did tell us it was a stringer and she actually had a bruise on her leg bless her. Milky buttons cured all :)

Good news about the jab too - I did wonder if it would be backdated :(
