um
my mum n dad bought it for me
haha
but all u gotta do is find a landlord that will accept DSS

OMG Beckss... You flat is effing gorgeous...

To toxic angel... You can get the social to pay your rent...but you will need to get housing benefit.... this usually can't be done until you've actually moved into a property or put a payment down for the property, like a reservation fee... but I think they help with that too...As beckss says you need to find a landlord that will accept housing benefit as payment ie. DSS.... Usually if they don't they will advertise no DSS...

Usually you will have to pretend to not be on benefits to get most flats, but your landlord doesn't have to know you are claiming HB as it is paid directly to you, then you pay them.

Just get the cheapest one you can and they will probably cover it, I have a bedsit for £350 (cheapest in this part of town) so if you get the cheapest 1 bed you can find in your part of town they should cover it if you are claiming Income Support.

If you ask at your local neighbourhood office there might be a scheme to help people on benefits get a private flat too (to get around any problems with a deposit or getting a private flat while on benefits.) There was one in brum but it ended, hopefully there'll be a new one soon.

Yes you can rent private and have the DHSS pay the rent.
You have to just look for a property you like, then ask if they would accept rent payments made by the DHSS. Some landlords say no for various reasons, others will say yes, some will perhaps make a decision upon meeting you or reviewing your previous tennancies or references from previous rentals etc. Often letting agencies will be able to tell you which properties they have do and don't accept DHSS, worth asking. Good luck with your search.

My friend is on benefits and she was in the same boat, she ended up finding a lovely 3 bed cottage for a decent price, garden and all. As the council had her homeless for 8 months, they accepted this as the price wasn't silly.

Now, she adores her place and no one is non-the-wsier that it's the council that pays. She had to pussy foot around the landlord at first, told him she was working and such, then after 4 months said she was on benefit, well just started, she hadn't caused any problems, is a good tenant, so the landlord was ok.

Wisht ehy were all like tha tlol
