I'm just wondering how many of you have had a private early scan. Or viability scan I think they're sometimes called. And, if you've had one, do you think they're worth the money?

I'm considering one just because waiting at least another 6 weeks to see if things are going ok in there feels like torture at the minute. But I don't want to fork out the money if they're just going to say 'yes, there's something in there but can't give you any reassurances'.

I know I'm only just over 6 weeks and the NHS are busy and everything but with it being my first time, I just feel a little bit abandoned. I've not been seen by a medical practitioner yet and won't be for another two and a half weeks. Who knows where I'd be without the internet. I'd be eating all the wrong foods and worrying about every little twinge if it wasn't for you ladies.

I had a scan at 7 weeks as they thought it could be an ectopic pregnancy. Everything was fine but I think if I'd still be waiting for my next scan which is a week on friday, I'd be going loopey now. I've only seen my midwife for my booking in appointment and that seemed a waste of time. She was rushed and I didn't bother her with the million of questions I had. It's my first too and if i wasn't for my partner already having a child to a previous relationship and knowing stuff already, I would be going crazy by now! xxx

I went to see my GP when I was about 3 or 4 weeks and they filled all the forms out, referred me off to the MW and that was it. I only had my first MW appointment 2 weeks ago so basically there was over a month between me telling my GP I was pregnant and me actually seeing someone properly about it.

So in most cases (provided you dont have any early or forseeable problems) be prepared to do a lot of waiting in between NHS appointments.

On top of that, I don't want to pay out for an early private scan only for them to say "oh we cant see much". In my opinion its a colossal waste of money.

xxxx

Hi OzGirlNat,

I am 7weeks with my first too. I have booked an early scan for when im just over 9 weeks as like you I feel a bit abandonned and dont really know what is happening. To be honest I'm finding it a bit hard to get excited about it all until I know that my bean is there and everything is ok.
I know people say its a waste of money as things can still go wrong at any stage during a pregnancy but like you I wanted piece of mind and the thought of waiting 6 weeks for a scan would drive me insane so I booked it... My friend just also had a baby and she had also booked one - she said it was the best thing she done as it put her mind at ease and didnt worry so much after it and now I only have 2 weeks and 3 days to wait until mine which doesnt quiet seem as bad as 6 weeks!!

Hope that helps you!!

G xx

I've got one booked for this Thursday so I'll let you know how it is, it's costing £55 so for piece of mind I think it's worth it. My hubby will also be away for the 12 week one so I didn't want him to miss out.

I've not seen midwife yet and haven't got an app untill 13 weeks! They do things differently everywhere but my doctor did give me a brief run down of do's and don'ts, but your right I'd be lost without the Internet and my week by week pregnancy book!
