So my hayfever has kicked itself back up a notch this weekend - swollen eyes, sneezing all the time, headache and just in general feel like poo!

I went to the walk in earlier this year and asked about what I can take whilst pregnant and they said nothing but I know ALOT of mum's to be have been given priton on prescription - I was just wondering if anyone in here knows?

I am going to get a second opinion today sometime at the chemist but was just wondering x x x

I feel your pain!! The pharmacist won't be able to give you anything as they aren't allowed. I saw my gp who gave me a spray and drops but they didn't help. I went back and they said you can take pills which contain loratadine or cetirizine as they don't have sedative effects. I o Lu take them on days where it's really really bad as I hate the thought of passing it to bubba... But some days it's so bad I can't deal with life!! Hope this helps x

So weird how doctors/midwives tell you different things in different areas/parts of the UK. My midwife said under no circumstances am I to take loratidine (which is what I've taken for years for my hayfever) as is dangerous during pregnancy. According to my doctor piriton is the only safe medication to take orally during pregnancy. I know loads of women are given nasal sprays and eye drops but apparently they're rubbish xx

Thanks ladies !

It's so confusing isn't it! I know loads of people that have been given tablets to take. Today it's really bad my eyes are so swollen and had w lovely day off planned with the OH and I just want to sleep xxxxx

I was told to take piriton when an unexplained rash popped up all over me in Tri 2 - by midwife, nurse and GP all in agreement so presumably it's fine! I took as little as possible just in case (and as we weren't at all sure it was even an allergic reaction), but there certainly seemed no concern about it having any effect on baby. x

If you want a safe natural alternative to antihistamines you could try taking bee pollen tablets. You need to build up the dose gradually and they can take a while to start working but I know a lot of people who swear by them for relief of hay fever and allergies

I'd be wary of taking bee pollen without speaking to your gp first. "Natural" doesn't necessarily mean "safe" (cannabis is natural after all) I found quite a few suggestions online that bee pollen isn't safe to take during pregnancy. The problem is, most drugs can't be tested on pregnant women as it's unethical / no-one would put themselves forward for a trial while pregnant and risk their baby's health, so bee pollen is just as dubious as many other tablets. I was told by my midwife not to take anything other than paracetamol unless I'd checked with my gp first and that would apply to bee pollen or any other herbal drug. It's just not worth the risk imo. X

I've heard eating local honey could help? It needs to be honey sourced from where you live (maybe a farm shop?) I guess the same principle as the bee pollen tablets but perhaps not quite as intense dose? I agree that natural doesn't = safe and in fact most common herbs are controversial in pregnancy. It's my understanding you shouldn't take any remedies (natural or otherwise) in medicinal doses without consulting your GP but most are safe in normal culinary amounts.
I feel for you - I suffer with hayfever but the odd 'monsoon' we keep having down south seems to be keeping the pollen count at bay for now!! ...
Hope you feel better soon lovely xxx

Bee pollen is entirely safe during pregnancy, I took it myself to help energy levels. Pregnant or not you just need to introduce it very gradually and obviously don't take at all if you are allergic to bees or wasps.

Hey Bunny!
Not sure if you remember me, use to speak to you in Tri 1 until i miscarried. Im back again TTC, and been trying to find a post from you to catch up and see how your doing! So glad everything gone ok.. apart from the hayfever.. Hope it calms down for you soon!
xx
