Does anyone know if the things you pack for a tiny and prem baby is different from a normal hospital supplies bag? We've been told bubs is going straight in to an incubator as will be 32 weeks max (planned for various reasons) and I'm a bit at sea with prep now!

when i was looking at the possibility i was told you dont really need anything for the baby as they dont need clothes etc in the incubator, but i would probably buy some prem vests /babygros anyway...

You can get tiny baby nappies now i read somewhere, but they usually provide most things.
Probably get tiny baby grows and clothes inc hats and mittens, for when your home and stuff though.

i read that the hospital loans you a breast pump when your baby has been in the prem unit so you might not even need that

Micro nappies as some hospitals will only provide the tiny Prem nappies. You can get either Little Angels own brand if you local Asda stock them or pampers micro nappies. I would also make sure that you are stocked up on some up to 5lb clothes as you will need for when they are out of the incubator and into a cot which could only be a couple of weeks if born at 32 weeks. You can then judge size and may need to buy smaller prem clothes.

As far as things to pack to make NICU easier I would advise a water bottle, hand cream and lip balm as they are very warm places and also you will be washing your hands a lot. A lot of people find that I tis helpful to have a note pad to hand as well so that you can put down any questions you might have for the Dr's and nurses but also write about your feelings or baby's milestones.

Most hospitals will lend you a pump as they will encourage your to provide breast milk if you can. It is therefore even more important to drink lots and lots of water and make sure you look after yourself.

If you are on facebook I would recommend a group called 'parents of preemies uk' as it is a great place to ask questions and get support.

My friend who had a premmie said she spent endless hours just trying to pump milk and swore by lanosin to keep the nips from getting sore. And maybe a book to pass the time spent pumping.
Good luck, hope everything goes well for you x x

Thank you all very much. Next scan tomorrow so finger crossed bubs gets to stay put a while longer x
