I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with triplets and my bump isn't the size you would expect it to be at this point with triplets and I always thought triplets come at 36-37 weeks, if you go beyond that doctors induce you?

My doctor said all three are developing perfectly fine and that they'll come when they want; it shouldn't be long now as one of the babies is pushing down on my pelvis, but I just don't think it is right.

My sister when she was pregnant was bigger than I am, she went into labor at 37 weeks 3 days and she just had one baby.

A lot of people don't believe that I'm expecting triplets due to my bump. I don't have a waddle when I walk, my bump is still round and not gravitating towards the ground, there are some of my own t-shirts that I can fit into.

This is my first pregnancy. Myself and my husband are very worried that I am not as big as we and others expect me to be at this point and going as far as I have.

39 weeks with triplets and you haven't been delivered???
Are you UK based? Is there a plan for delivery?

Have you not had all the scans etc you're supposed to have with multiple births? Surprised the midwives haven't reassured you and you are high risk so they should be monitoring you. If you are measuring small they would certainly have sent you for further scans...
What have your midwives said when you've told them of your worries?

My last scan was two days ago and that was to see if they would induce me but when the doctor saw how low down baby number 1 was he said, "we'll let nature and the babies do their own thing because it shouldn't be long now, although I'm not stopping you from doing your own home remedies" I have done just about all of the home remedies. When I said I'm scared at how small I am at this stage he said, "Every woman is different. The babies have developed well. Stop stressing yourself so much as that is not good for your own health as well as your babies"

This is immensely surprising, most twins never mind triplets would have been delivered long before now, and in fact the chances of a multiple birth going full term are highly unlikely! Fewer than half of twin births go past 37 weeks, and 1.5% of triplet births. The average length of triplet pregnancy is 34 weeks. Your doctor seems very chilled out about this. What country are you in?

I'm in the UK. My pregnancy has been at ease the entire time. When my work place found out that I was having triplets they started my maternity leave 2 months earlier. I've been spending a lot of time on bed rest ever since I was 22 weeks pregnant, my husband changed some of his work shift times so he was working more graveyard shifts so through the day he could be buying stuff in, setting it up and decorating their room, as well as making sure my needs are taking care of.

I thought that because for the past two months I've spent more time on bed rest I would have put more pounds on so I would be huge by now. Also spending more time on bed rest I was hoping that I could make it to 36 weeks but now that I have went to 39 and that is very rare it's worrying me. I think I might ring my doctor tonight and ask if I can be induced tomorrow.

Sorry I tried to edit mypost and my lovely DD deleted the whole thing!

I originally asked you when your last scan was but I re-read and saw that you said a few days ago. Did they check placenta function and cord blood flow? They will have put babies' measurements in your notes, why not check them and see. Could you give me their femur, AC and head size measurements? I used to remember a little website you could put the measurements in and it would tell you baby's weight. I had concerns about liquor levels and baby growth in my last pregnancy.

Did you not agree with this? It shouldn't be up to them, up to you! They're not legally allowed to dictate when you go on maternity leave, unless you're off sick within 4 weeks of your date xx

Wish I had some advice! I do know some women just can hide their growing baby away somewhere and hardly look pregnant! (A friend was like this and the day she went on mat leave people were surprised she was pregnant!! Baby was fine though!)..... I can completely get your anxiety hun......Really hope u r delivered of your 3 soon and all is well xxx

Where in uk are you? I work in maternity and ive never ever seen a triplet pregnancy go to term.....hmmmmmm

My last scan was two days ago.

I was fine with leaving for maternity leave earlier than I had expected. I was going to leave the 22nd of March; just as I hit 8 months; like my sister did but they said given that I was expecting triplets I could go a lot sooner than I had planned. They wanted to make my third trimester as stress free as possible.

*Tri hopping*
Just wanted to try to reassure you a little bit. A friend of mine recently delivered twins at 40 weeks. Borh were perfectly healthy with good weights and she wasn't even that big. You might just be carrying less fluid than some women so most your bump is pure baby. :)

It's not really something they have to give permission for, when you leave is entirely up to you, it can be anytime from 11 weeks before your due date.

I have to apologise, I edited the post that I think you're responding to, but it took me ages because my DD deleted it half way through!! Here it is:

The doctor said that they roughly weigh 7lbs - 8lbs now and their lengths are roughly 17 inches - 19 inches. Which is why baby number 3 is all up in my ribs...the little tinker.

Hi and welcome :) wow triplets how amazing!! Do you have a bump pic?? :-)

This is all very bizarre- triplets are normally delivered by Caesarean section and it's very unusual for them to wait this long to deliver you. If the babies are measuring ok on ultrasound I wouldn't worry about your size particularly. However, you need a clear plan for this pregnancy and delivery and it doesn't sound like you have one- you need to speak to your consultant and get a few things clarified.

Ps how sure are you of your dates?? Are you 39 weeks by ultrasound dating or by your dates?

Erm, are they planning a natural delivery? Which hospital is it? Even twins are rarely delivered naturally here as not many people have breech delivery experience
